And can we talk about how the guards didn't find it strange that Merlin hadn't come out of Arthur's chambers at all, even though it was already morning? Why do you think Myshkin reacted the way he did after he found out Rogozhin killed Nastasya Fillipovna? I get that he was probably in shock, but still, his actions even then seemed very... strange to me?

Personally, I think it was a mixture of a ton of conflicting emotions. He was definitely in shock, but he also loved both Rogozhin and Nastasya. The great and terrible thing about Myshkin’s character is that he sees the best in everyone and everything, and he doesn’t (or maybe can’t) understand that most other people don’t work like that. He was probably crushed with grief when he saw Nastasya’s body, but I’m sure he was also confused and disoriented about how Rogozhin could do this. Myshkin is someone who stayed friends with Rogozhin EVEN AFTER ROGOZHIN tried to kill him. He sees Rogozhin as a good person, even though all evidence points to the contrary. I think the fact that Rogozhin was not a good person only really clicked with Myshkin after he found Nastasya’s body, and I think that even after, he was very much in denial. He probably knew that Rogozhin would go to Siberia, but even worse, he probably realized that his best friend wasn’t the person Myshkin knew him to be. I think that Myshkin was mourning two of his close friends and that everything he felt for them — love, confusion, an overwhelming amount of empathy, and maybe even anger — pushed him past his breaking point. But the fact that he stayed with Rogozhin and comforted him shows that even after this horrible thing happened, Myshkin still loved Rogozhin and empathized with him. But that’s just my personal interpretation.
