ICELAND

A little trip to colder climate, we went for a snowy holiday in Iceland and it was my first non-skiing / snowboarding cold holiday. You know when you just trot on with life and then you see someone elses amazing work and you think omg that’s amazing! I should be improving and more movited to create an exciting new range of products, but instead I am just trotting along in life, sitting on the sofa scoffing my face with ridulous amounts of chocolate eggs in the evening, after putting my daughter to bed. And now shes 14 months (I cant believe it either) she wants to eat everything im eating! So all naughties need to be eaten at night in the comfort of knowing I don’t have to share or the guilt of feeding her something bad because I cant wait to scoff my face until the evening. I know a little bit of chocolate wouldn’t hurt her but im extremely greedy and waking up at all hours makes me a bit sugar crazy! And YES I have been eating easter eggs since januarary, because you know what the chocolate is just so much better and I don’t feel bad about it, ok I do a little otherwise I wouldn’t eat them at the dark of night.

Anyway I found this absolutely amazing jewellery maker called Elina Gleizer and her work touched my heart. I think I will be buying one of her fabulous rings soon! Her work just calls to be and I love it! You can see more HERE!

My favourite is the owl and then the wolf, I just feel each piece has a soul and a powerful presents.

So I am a dog person (not that I dislike cats just prefer dogs) I have a lovely 9 year old Pug called Gizmo, well I say I’m a dog person he sort of is a catdog he sleeps all day and only really likes to walk and be fed. So maybe he’s not a catdog his just an extremely lazy!! Anyway, all of that has nothing to do with what I’m talking about and as this is the year of FOCUS! Maybe I should focus on what I’m meant to be talking about as this is just babble (a normal person would delete the above but I’m just going to keep trucking on)

RIGHT… cats, so for all the wonderful cat loving people I have been designing cat silhouettes, it was incredibly hard to pick what the cat should be doing – running, lying all snuggled up or just sitting. I went with the running/ walking cat and I’m not sure this was the right choice. Does it need to be a bit bigger / more sturdy? As it does look a bit delicate, it will be solid enough but is it me or does it look a bit weird? Am I having a self-doubt sort of moment? Questioning what the hell am I doing? Ow how I have fallen from my whale high!

What do you think? Can the cats make it into the Etsy shop? Or is this just an epic CATastrophe or should I be more PAWsitive Ok sorry about the cat puns I just couldn’t help myself, this year of focus is already very testing.

The Questionable Cat?

I did it! I cut out the cutest damn pair of Whales I’ve ever seen. It’s like I just plucked them out of the sea and magiced them into earrings! Ok so I am a little bit biased… so you can make up your own minds! I have put a few pics below for your approval and I’m open to all opinions. 

A little background – the behind the scenes making – First I started by googling (other search engines are available) whale photos and copied a few favourites into illustrator. Drew a few silhouette drawings, tweaked, texted a few friends to see which one they preferred and picked the winner.

Printed the drawings in a range of sizes as I wasn’t sure what size I fancied cutting. Used spray adhesive and picked the size & stuck the whale drawing directly to my silver sheet.

Now the best bit… the cutting out!! tunes definitely help with my cutting and I sing along (unfortunately for the hubby, but I think he secretly loves my unique singing style) sawing out my tiny whale earrings.

I file them nice and smooth, solder the posts, pop them in the barrelling machine, spend 5 hours tried to find them in the mix of silver shots. (well 10 minutes but it feels like hours and there’s always one sneaky earringI can’t find) Give em a polish! my second favourite part as they’re sooooooo shiny (may have been a magpie in a former life.)

Pugs!

Elephant Earrings

I thought I would show the process of how I make the tiny elephant earrings.

First I doodle what I would like make and then draw it in illustrator an print out the design to the right size. I then cut out the design and stick it to the silver using spray mount.

Double Twist Silver Bangle

I decided to go back to my favourite style which is shiny twisted things. So I made this double twisted bangle for my mum’s birthday present, as whatever rubbish I make she always loves it an is very grateful.
