At Pearlâs reminder about the terms of the deal, Aqua scoffed. Sheâd been hoping that Pearl, in the heat of the moment, wouldnât realize that Steven was still on board the ship. She would have loved to have captured both the renegade pearl that shattered Pink Diamond and the very gem that performed the deed. The praise she would have received from Homeworld for such a thing was something she longed for.
Alas, the pearl, being more clever than she would have thought a pearl capable, caught on.
âUgh, fine,â she grumbled.Â
She watched on as the two before her said their goodbyeâs, rolling her eyes in disgust. They were being sentimental, and it was annoying. She allowed only a moment of this, before nabbing Steven with her wand and tossing him away from the ship into the water below. âThatâs enough of that. We need to be on our way.â
Her arms were empty too soon; motherly love had no place in Homeworldâs hierarchy. Â Pearl cast one last glance to make sure Steven had landed all right - she didnât trust Aquamarine not to carelessly throw against a hard surface - before she sighed, lowering her head as she accepted her fate.
Heâs safe, heâs safe, heâs safe⌠ She kept repeating to it herself, knowing that was the only way sheâd get through this.  Knowing what sheâd resigned herself to.  At least sheâd actually had something to do with the war.  Steven was innocent.
May have been the losing side.  Still not convinced it was the wrong one.  The sentiment echoed in Pearlâs head, from a TV show sheâd been watching with Steven.  It was hard to say whoâd won the battle for Earth, really.  All those years, sheâd insisted to herself they had.  They got Homeworld to retreat!  They had the planet.  But at what cost?  Either wayâŚit wasnât the wrong side to be on.  That, sheâd always be sure of.  âFine.  Take me to your leader.â  Steven would have been amused by that, if he heard.  Heâd loved to laugh at terrible science fiction films.  She had to hold onto that - onto her memories o him, why she was doing this - or sheâd lose all hope.
âOh, Iâll take you to our leaders, alright.â The reference had flown right over her head, and sheâd only taken it as another moment to goad about the fact that Pearl would be going to the Diamonds.
âTopaz! I require your assistance in getting this pesky little renegade Pearl in the right place,â she called out to the bigger gem, her voice almost singsong now. She was relieved to have the whole ordeal behind her and the job as good as done, and it showed in the return of her cheerful demeanor. It was inconvenient that Pearl couldnât be held inside of Topaz like Steven could, but at least she was coming willingly, and could be otherwise restrained. âWe wouldnât want her turning back on our deal, now would we?âÂ
She was being a hypocrite with that last line, but she didnât care.
Once the ship was closed up and they were about to be on their way, there was another matter that needed to be handled, though, and that was how Topaz was going to pilot the ship and keep Pearl from doing anything. She hovered over the two of them with the use of her water wings. âI trust youâll be able to pilot the ship despite your little prisoner there?â
