Riku wakes when he shifts his position in bed, only to feel his nose bump into a solid surface. Blinking himself awake, he’s greeted to the sight of a wall of glossy red paper–no, not exactly a wall, but a box shaped gift wrapped nicely beside his pillow.
Of course, as anyone would, Riku sleepily sat up to inspect his mysterious parcel–looking for a non-existent recipient tag, shaking it to guess what was inside–but his curiosity eventually got the better of him as he simply combated with the wrappings and managed to rip open the underlying box inside.
He turned over the plastic vial to read the custom label on the back, simply reading, “Your cure.”
His cure?
His cure for what? It couldn’t possibly be…?
Apart of him was conflicted–what if this was a prank? What if the contents were actually harmful to him? Maybe he should have someone else advise him on what to do–but those perfectly printed words–YOUR CURE.–almost begin to yell at him now, calling to him…
He impulsively downs the clear liquid inside with shaking lips, reeling at the bitterness that clings to the back of his esophagus. At first Riku concluded that he had fallen for a cruel attempt at poisoning him as he temporarily can’t breathe for a few seconds, but then…
It’s like his chest becomes a million times lighter, liquid light flowing though his lungs and throat, gasping out as he takes the first deep breath in years that doesn’t hurt or result in a coughing fit.
Over joyed at the prospects--is this what he thought it was?! Was he finally..?!–Riku leaps out of bed, running over to the balcony attached to his room and ripping open the glass door, grasping onto the rail handle outside of his deck and taking the biggest inhale before–
“AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH–!!”
He lets out the loudest scream he can, uninhibited…. and free.
The blissfully sleeping Ten was given a rude awakening as soon as the voice ripped through the quiet hours of the morning.
It was difficult enough for Ten to rise in the earlier hours (though he did so without complaint for work), but to be started awake by a scream was the last thing he needed after a long night at work.
The second rude awakening came when he realized just who the owner of the voice was. Ten’s first thoughts were lost in a flurry of panic. Had someone broken in? Was Riku yelling because of that? Ten leapt from the bed and burst out of the room, looking around for any trace of Riku, and found him standing on the balcony...
Panic faded into irritation which then faded into anger tinged with worry. Ten immediately stalked over to Riku, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him back away from the balcony.
“Riku, what do you think you’re doing yelling that loudly?! You should know better than that. Do you want to trigger another attack?”
