Trans Law Help is a Scam

Fyi everyone that Trans Law Help thing that’s been going around is actually a scam. It’s bring run by the same scammers who cheated loads of young lgbtq tumblr users out of thousands of dollars with a bogus video game called The Arkh Project a few years back.

Please spread the word, and consider instead sending money to Trans Lifeline, The Sylvia Rivera Law Project, or The Mazzoni Center.

NOTE: there are legit people using the #translawhelp hashtag, but do NOT give them any money until they’ve proved they’re a licensed and legitimate lawyer.

and you can put whatever you want in the in honor blank, so it’s a very wholesome way to communicate & start a dialogue! by which i mean, you can be sure he really fucking chokes on it.

Transgender Day of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil in Evansville, IN

8pm TDOR Candlelight Vigil, Gather outside of Scandals, 1348 E. Division St., Evansville, IN. We talk for 15 minutes then walk to pedestrian crossing over the Lloyd Expressway, (media will be invited to attend this candlelight vigil)

9pm TDOR Benefit at Scandals, Money raised will be used for gasoline gift cards to give transgender youth and young adults to attend support groups. Sponsored by: Tri-State Alliance, Gender Warriors, Tri-State Safe Zone, TSA Youth Group, TSA Young Adult Group, MAP Evansville, Rainbow Catholic Interfaith Coalition, St. Lucas United Church of Christ of Evansville, Zion United Church of Christ in Henderson The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved.

Here's How Many Transgender People Live in Your State

There are about 1.4 million transgender people in America, according to a new study.

Five years ago, the University of California-Los Angeles law school’s Williams Institute, which conducts research on sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy, announced that there were approximately 700,000 Americans identifying as transgender.

But that estimate may have been far too small. Today, according to the Institute’s newest survey, there are about 1.4 million transgender people in America, or roughly 0.6% of the adult population. 

The new survey drew from a larger Centers for Disease Control (CDC) database to get the estimate, double the Institute’s previous estimate, and a much higher number than researchers in earlier years had found.
