It’s been over a decade since I’ve done any animated shorts of my own! Here’s a new series I’m starting up, let’s GOOOOO!!!!

Gooplord is an ancient alien residing on the Coconauts' island home of Mexismoo for many millenia. He provides the kids with superpowers to maintain peace and preserve the island culture, which he adores. He was once worshipped as a deity...He's mostly a burden now.

The leader of the Coconauts, but also the oldest and SCRAPPIEST!! Zoë's time as a Coconaut is almost up (they age out of their powers at 15), and she has to learn how to be a normal teenager...but thAT'S BORING EVERYONE IS DUMB ZOË JUST WANTS TO PUNCH MONSTERS FOREVER ARGHHH

POPPY LOVES TO LOVE!!! She's a fan of everything, including YOU! Her relentless enthusiasm is infectious, and she's a beacon of light during the toughest times. But always staying positive is taking a toll on the lil' gal, and the EXISTENTIAL DARKNESS is slowly creeping in....

ANOTHER COCONAUT!!! Benji is a wannabe bad boy and wannabe leader of the Coconauts. His attitude towards the other Coconauts changes with how much admiration they are giving him. Derby claims they are BFF's, but Benji often pushes him away to come off "cool" and "tormented"

HOW ABOUT SOME COCONAUTS CHARACTER ART? Here's Derby Buddabee, the newest recruit of the Coconauts! Derby's a little jellybean of a boy, who loves comics and anime and was a big fan of the Coconauts before *GASP* BECOMING ONE HIMSELF!!!!

Last October, I pitched around a show called Coconauts! It's about 4 kids who are chosen to be Sentai-esque protectors of their tropical island. A couple of extremely talented friends helped me make this cover image! Layout: @mikejwitz Colors: @jessdrawz Inks: Me!

Oh gosh planet panic has so much potential. The anticipation is driving me crazy. I'd like to know how you came up with the concept. ( I'm not a creative person)

Thank you so much!! That’s a very complicated question though. There’s no magical moment that creates an entire show in your brain. It started as some drawings and has been developed bit by bit for over 10 years now!! After all, good ideas take time to grow! I’m sure I’ll talk more about it in the future.

How TV Cartoons Are Made - A (Mostly) Simplified Guide

When I was in school and wanted to work in animation, there was very little information about how cartoons are actually made. Even my professors at college knew very little about the industry as it is today. I’m sure it would’ve been better to study somewhere in California (like CalArts) to be better informed about this stuff, but I didn’t have that opportunity.

Nowadays, many kids in school have a dream career that they don’t really know much about. There’s a lot of missing bits of information and a lot of straight up lies that get circulated as fact as people try to scramble to put the pieces together on how cartoons for television are actually made.

I’ve been storyboarding for television for a while now, and there still aren’t clear resources for those wanting to get into the industry. I wanted to make the basics available to everyone, so here’s a quick rundown through the TV pipeline. Please note: all studios and productions are different. Even cartoons made within the same studio could have wildly different production guidelines. This is not a concrete explanation of how every cartoon is made; this is simply a generalized look at the “typical” television pipeline.

This post is influenced heavily by my own individual experience, as well as friends’.
