Deltarune Chapter 5 Spoilers/Discussion
Nothing major, talk about the weird route and stuff that's already been seen in previous chapters

I wonder how many people don't realize, or worse yet don't want to acknowledge that Noelle is like
Clinically depressed.
it was mostly hinted it during the previous chapters, but the hints and reasons are there.
Her sister's missing, her dad's in Hospital dying, and her mom has shut off from everything.
(I don't want to comment on whether Carol has always been a bad mom or not, I think it would be a lot more interesting if she used to be a bright and happy woman, but the tragedy of Dess destroyed that.)
In the Ferris wheel scene with Susie we get a few hints that she feels stuck, but in Chapter 5 we get outright confirmation that not only is she Depressed, she is Suicidal
She smiles more with Susie, dares to hold her hand, put her head on Susie's shoulder, and offered to give her hundreds of dollars, because she had already planned her 'suicide'.
Whether she had actually directly planned to drown them I think we need to wait until chapter 7 for, but it's pretty likely.
Noelle though, is outwardly a pretty happy girl. She gets good grades, she's popular at school, she's got money, her dad loves her, she's got a lot of good things going for her.
But she is fully unable to process the tragedy she experienced in losing Dess, and possibly losing her dad, because her house is frozen in time. Her sister's room is still as it was left when Dess disappeared, holiday decorations out (debatably those are out all year) but she is stuck.
Noelle has to do Noelle things.
That's how she feels even outside Weird Route. It's the routine she has been stuck in ad nauseum since Dess disappeared.
in the Normal route we start breaking her routine with positive things, in the Weird Route we break the routine without helping her.
But in either case.
Noelle is MAJORLY, depressed, and the only reason she probably hasn't killed herself is because that's not a Noelle thing, that's not part of her routine.
I honestly wonder if Ralsei isn't actually some actual aspect of Asriel, outside of him being how Kris saw themselves if they were a monster as a kid.
I'm nurturing a small theory that actually Asriel's the Knight, broken by Dess' death, and Ralsei is a little piece of him that didn't succumb to whatever power the shard had.
There's something up with the lake, Asriel sent Dess love letters, or at least wrote them down. Onion-San talked about hearing a voice underneath the lake.
So, maybe Dess is under the lake, trapped somehow? This isn't a coherent theory at all, but Dess being the Knight seems almost a little too obvious, and if Asriel, Kris and Dess were all close, it wouldn't be far off to think that maybe Asriel would have her bat and take on her appearance if something happened to him.
Kris would obviously help out both Dess and Asriel with how close it sounded they were, but they'd probably be more willing to if it was Asriel, with how they're being forced to keep things from Susie, and even basically betray her.
I also don't know how much I believe in Asriel being at college, with everything that's happening, the thought of him being so far away and disconnected seems off to me.
in chapter 5 when you talk to Seam, he talks about how the Black Shards/Shadow Crystals are pieces of Broken dreams.
Jevil, Spamton, The Knight, Gerson and Pink. Those are the shards so far.
Jevil and Spamton had dreams they wanted to fulfill, they were tempted by the shard and corrupted by it.
I don't quite understand Jevil so I can't really guess what his dream might have been
Spamton wanted to be someone, be a big shot. Wanted a glamorous life and to make money.
He got the shard, and his dream came true, got corrupted and broke.
I don't have commentary on the Knight because we don't know enough about them yet.
Gerson and Pink, or rather Pink's body, didn't have any dreams that the shard could corrupt.
Gerson wanted to write, he wrote, he lived a good live and died peacefully.
Pink's Body just wanted to date/be with someone, and they got Pink, so they didn't have anything that the shard could corrupt either.
I think the shard only corrupts you if you have dreams it can fulfill and then break, but I'd have to reply chapter 5 to get all the context.
