The Iberian peninsula at night from the ISS
One of the Expedition 40 crew members aboard the International Space Station recorded this early evening photo of the entire Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) on July 26, 2014. Part of France can be seen at the top of the image and the Strait of Gibraltar is visible at bottom, with a very small portion of Morocco visible near the lower right corner.

iāve been loving the recent cold rainy weather, but it hasnāt exactly done wonders for my lighting.

Life Changing Products For Students with Depression
Studying with depression is hard, itās a constant state of being unmotivated and itās time consuming, sometimes to the extent where you descend into a shell of a person, living off cereal, hiding in your study and writing amongst endless mugs of tea & coffee in pyjamas. I get it, Iāve been there. Hereās some products that will make looking and feeling decent a lot easier:
Some deodorant or perfume that you really like, itāll help freshen you up when a shower is too much effort
Following from that, dry shampoo is good too
And mints/chewing gum
Makeup wipes and baby wipes
A good light to keep you awake and brighten up the room
If you can afford it, some cute decorations to help make the environment more pleasant and motivating
A HUGE water bottle. Mine is 1.6L, keep it near you at all times and drink it throughout the day
A thermos/cup for tea and coffee or aĀ āspecial mugā. Put in the effort of using and reusing it so you donāt end up with a million mugs on your desk
Quick but nutritious snack food:
In addition to fruit & veg this may include more practical and easier stuff like instant oatmeal, granola bars, yoghurt, etc.
Blankets, obvious but good for all nighters
Again, if you can afford it, a good chair that helps with your posture
Organisers for your pills (if you take any), and an app to remind you to take them
Air spray to freshen the room
Thatās all I can think of right now but feel free to add. I hope this is helpful.
i hope you all remember that you are more than your studies, that academia has been historically designedĀ for neurotypical white men and only recently has it opened up to women, disabled ppl, and people with neurodiversity. these systems were not designed for us, and itās okay if you feel burnt out because of it. you are not broken if it gets too much for you sometimes. you are not stupid if you canāt handle the workload or if the teaching methods donāt work for you. and you are so brave for doing it anyway. we are making academia a more diverse space. we will make it a space for everyone, because learning is one of the greatest gifts in the world. so be proud of yourself for making it in spite of everyone. you are inspiring for making it in a system designed against you.
thereās such an unhealthy stigma, especially in academic communities, surrounding taking time off or dropping out. putting education above your health and well-being isnāt okay and should not be the standard. obviously there are positives to school/college/uni, but the environment created by the education system can be so horrifically damaging in so many ways, and demonising stepping away from or leaving it only makes it worse.Ā as much as education is important, your health and well-being are infinitely more so.Ā
it is okay to take breaks. itās okay to take a year off. itās okay to leave if thatās what you need to do. dropping out does not make you stupid, nor does it make you a failure. take care of yourself first and foremost. traditional education is not the only way to learn.
Something we tend to forget is thatĀ recovering from a mental illness is a full time job.Ā You are constantly working internally and externally to fight off this thing and try to distinguish yourself from the skewed thoughts. So if you start to feel guilty for ābeing lazyā, or not feeling like youāre accomplishing anything, Ā please remember that you are.Every single minute of the day that youāre working at recovery, you are in the midst of doing one of the greatest possible things you can do for yourself.
March 2017 | Currently at home trying to power through three pieces of coursework before I can start revising (!) and v much missing having a giant desk surrounded by maps to spread my work (and other paraphernalia) across.
