When we were originally planning our trip to Prague, we knew we wanted to take at least one day trip out of Prague. Not only is this something we really enjoy doing when we travel, but Prague has some fantastic options for unique locations to explore. First, I researched Český Krumlov based on the recommendations of a few friends. Though I was intrigued by the descriptions of this charming town, once I discovered it was a little too far for a comfortable day trip from Prague, sadly, we had to take it off the list. We talked about Plzeň or České Budějovice but eliminated them pretty quickly since brewery tours are the number one attraction in both cities. However, as a St. Louis born girl, I was perhaps a bit more intrigued than the Mr. to see where Budvar (the original Budweiser) is brewed. Finally, we came across a little town called Kutná Hora and after a little research we discovered it checked (Czeched?) some big boxes for us:
Spitbank Fort, Portsmouth, UK
Travel to Spitbank Fort – The shores of South sea on Portsea Island can be somewhat chameleonic. Being part of the UK it does not escape from the ever changing weather, its the transporting views on a beautiful coastline that stretches of for miles that I immediately fell in love with back in 2003. I guess you can say it was love at first sight. The following year I moved to Portsmouth on Portsea Island, Southern coast of England. On long summer days I could easily spend the day out on the seafront watching sailboats play catch with the wind, ferries transporting islanders to Calais in France or watch cruise liners pass through with passengers hoping for a short break from cabin fever. The beauty that comes with living so close to the sea side and a break from the concrete jungle of London life is what inspired the move to Portsmouth.
