Liesel thought for a moment before she spoke, “Where does your cramps hurt?”

“Here.” Deena rubs her lower abdomen. “I-I don’t like it. It feels… it feels like it’s a very bad thing.”

“Did you have sex in the past month?” The army nurse ask, “If not, when did you have your period?”

Healing Hands

Liesel smiled, “Bremen is really close where my home is.” She continued, “I’m from a small village called Hollen… It’s in Lower Saxony.” As she was driving she realized that the aid station was close by. “I was actually born in Poland, but my father and mother moved to Germany when I was young… After when they died, I was adopted into a family from Hollen…”

When they arrived at the aid station, she parked her Jeep next to a tent and got out of the driver’s seat, “I’ll help you get out and see if I can get crutches for you.”

“Ah, I see…” he nodded half-heartedly. He wanted to listen to her more carefully, more closely, but the throbbing pain in his lower abdomen was making it gradually harder - his vision that started to become more and more blurry too, maybe because of the blood loss, maybe because of the shock that finally settled in, he wasn’t sure, did the rest.

When she spoke again, he didn’t answer her at all anymore. He simply pushed against the door, almost falling out of the car as it suddenly flung open and eventually letting himself drop into the nurse’s arms that were stretched towards him in order to support him. Crutches might have been a good idea 10 minutes ago, but right now, they would’ve been pretty useless.

Liesel helped him to the tent guiding him. It was empty and only had one bed. She helped him get seated, “There... I hope you can get yourself comfortable.” She then realized that he was still in pain, “Are you still in pain? If so, where does it hurt?” 

She then brought out her medic bag and a canteen of water, she then gave the water to him, “Please drink.”

“I was being such a fool.”

Liesel was confused,”What do you mean?” She asked as she folded clean bandages for the medical supplies.

Liesel shook her head, “They said anyone to bring with… Even friends…” She then came over to Wolfgang and put a hand on his shoulder, “I know what you’re thinking and you don’t have to explain it. But you’re not with the enemy anymore, you’re not seen as an enemy anymore… You’re now an ally… Like I said you have a good heart, and with a good heart comes an opportunity of a bright future.”

She then grabbed an envelope and gave it to him, “It’s a letter from the U.S… They’re asking if you want to join in with the allies…” She sighed, “I got the same letter from them after when I saved the lives of ten American airborne troops…”

Swallowing hard, he couldn’t bring himself to glance towards her again. Instead he folded his hands into each other and poorly suppressed a sigh, then bit his bottom lip for a moment before answering.

“Just like that?” he lifted his head, not upset at her, but at himself - maybe at the US Army, too. “I’ve done all these things and getting an offer like that, just like that?”

“They release me of all my responsibilities just because someone somewhere decided that I was - that I could be useful to them? You saved lives, I didn’t do anything!”

Liesel sighed, “I don’t know how to answer that...” After when she spoke, she sat down and relaxed. “Anyway, the point is you can come with me, if you want...”

“If you don’t want to, I won’t force you...” She then looked at Wolf, “I just want to invite a friend...I barely have any friends here, other than you...”

He can almost hear his pulse quickening, hisheart pounding against crumbling ribs akin toa raging animal, hazard in its sheerest form asit threatens to BREAK OUT. Simply containingit is exhausting enough to double the weightof his lids, fatigue shading brown eyes intothe dull black of ashes splattered across snow.But is it her voice that adds the most adrenaline,a call reaching through cotton as he tries to focus.“ It’s not mine. ” He says and instantly knows he’slying– well, halfway lying; somewhat certain thatat least a third of it doesn’t come from the shrapnelstuck in his arm. Hurts like hell too, dare say. Notso much of a scratch anymore.

Liesel didn’t know what to do, but she knew that Nixon was bleeding. Some of the blood wasn’t his, but he was really bloody. She then cleared her throat and looked Nixon in the eye, “You need to wash up and I’ll patch you up.”

After she spoke, she started to get her first aid kit and prayed that Nixon’s wound wasn’t too big.

Liesel, an eighteen year old German girl, was walking around New York for the first time as a immagrant from Hollen, Germany, when all of a sudden she bumped into a young man and dropped her bags a fell to ground.

Jack had been walking backwards, shouting goodbyes to Jem, but when he felt something hit him he whipped around just in time to see the girl hit the ground.  He swore, instantly reaching for her hand.  “Sorry,” he said, “you okay?”

Jack opened his mouth to start giving directions, but then something clicked in his mind, and he frowned.  “—Wait, you’re from Germany, workin’ on our side?” He was surprised at the military rank—she looked about his own age—but he grinned anyway.  “Hey, Liesel.”

Liesel nodded, “I wanted to help the allies when I was sixteen” She continued, “The Nazis killed my birth and adopted parents... So you can say I’m not pleased with the Nazi party...”

Liesel then changed the subject, “Is America true to their words? ‘The land of the freedom?’” 

After she spoke, a car swished by and flew into a puddle making Liesel wet. She stood there in shock for a moment and continued, “I dealt with worse things than this...”She tried to calm herself, “I dealt with blood and guts... Water shouldn’t hurt me...”
