ALIGNS “Got What I Need”
I think the only thing more fun than hanging out with Jacques Barbot and Mark Bell is going to an ALIGNS show. Somehow these loving goofy guys get on stage and immediately transform into raw energy.
My best attempt at describing a feeling comparable to the live experience of an ALIGNS set is how I feel riding the bici across wet brooklyn pavement at midnight after a thunderstorm, the way the music hits you is completely visceral, I don’t want the moment to end and I know that I’m in a special place.
you can experience ALIGNS on Sunday 8/23 at afropunk - get your tickets!

Jess Ledbetter of JACKIE sings “Tell Me”
26 year old Texas native Jess Ledbetter stepped onto the New York music scene in 2010. A closet songwriter from the age of 12, it was under the wing of Brit-pop enthusiasts The Dearloves that she began to identify her sonic desires. Fast-forward to present day, she stands as a PJ Harvey type and sounds like Patsy Cline got sweet on The Brian Jonestown Massacre. She now resides in Austin, Texas and her band JACKIE will be releasing their new EP "Inertia" in September.
*GBC note* I met Jess when she was the other “youngest one” working at a bustling New York coffee shop where we ended up meeting so many people we loved. One thing I’ve always loved about her is her consistency and her ability to be fully herself. From her full raspy guilty-sounding laugh, to her technicolor locks, to the talks we’ve had over the years about pursuing life as an artist it was such a pleasure being able to work with her on this video for The Artist’s Room.
Lanusa singing “Moons Above You”
The Artist’s Room series was born one day when Get Born was sitting around the house musing on the difficulty of having quality video content as an artist.
As three filmmakers with three cameras between us... we picked them up. So this is the very first video from The Artist’s Room, a super stripped down three camera shoot where we visit artists in their space, singing a song of their choice. Enjoy!
