Health comes in all shapes and sizes
Open Question:
I’m just starting out and I’m having trouble motivating myself to work out. I don’t have much trouble moderating my food intake, but it seems like one week, I’m totally excited to work out every single day and then the next week, I don’t want to work out at all.
Does anyone have any tips to help me?

Hey Chris! I'm just wondering how you broke the association between food & guilt, or the notion that some food = good and some = bad. It's something I've been struggling with lately...
Food is fuel. No matter what kind of food you eat, your body will get energy from it.
You’re going to be the most satisfied when you’re eating fresh, whole foods with tons of vitamins and nutrients and few preservatives/other junk found in processed food products. But does that mean you have to completely cut out treats that might not be the best for you, but taste really good?
Nope!
If you’re labeling foods “good” and “bad” with the purpose of balancing them 80/20, that’s one thing. I actually prefer to put foods in the categories of “will help me reach my goals” and “won’t help me reach my goals.”
But if you’re feeling guilty and frustrated when you give in to cravings and eat some “bad” foods, that kind of mindset isn’t going to get you anywhere.
It’s isn’t “all or nothing,” it’s “everything, and more of this than that.”
I am a firm believer that eating EVERYTHING in moderation is healthier for you mentally AND physically. You avoid the feeling of guilt (which should NEVER be associated with food in the first place) and you avoid going crazy and overeating on treats after you’ve deprived yourself of them for days.
For example, eating one, 200 calorie cookie three times a week is better than swearing off cookies for two weeks and then giving in to the craving and eating 10 of them in one sitting and feeling sick and disgusted with yourself. Often overeating like that can throw you completely off track, and then you have to find the motivation to get going again.
You never have to be afraid of food and you never need to feel guilty for eating. Ever.
