Like how are environmentalist calling for a nuclear phaseout when Solar power takes habitat from wildlife, Wind kills 328,000 birds a year (both of these are better than coal), and coal contributes to 69,900 deaths in Germany alone. Angela, you’re better than this. But props for the coal phaseout :)

"Governments need to take urgent action to ensure that the recovery from the economic effects of the coronavirus brings long-lasting good," World Nuclear Association Director General Agneta Rising said today. Her message concurs with sentiment expressed at the 11th Petersberg Climate Dialogue this week, that governments must ensure their efforts to stimulate the world economy must also strengthen the fight against climate change.

bruh like seriously, like I’m glad this might be happening but like, takes a frickin pandemic for people to take nuclear and other renawables seriously and consider them as a much better substitute to the economically unstable and environmentally harmful fossil fuel industry. smh :(

Russia's Ministry for Economic Development last week published a draft strategy for low-carbon development to 2050. The strategy's basic scenario would see nuclear output grow from 203 TWh in 2017 to 225 TWh in 2030 and 260 TWh in 2050.

260 TWh is a pretty good number considering the 203 TWh in 2017 but 2050 is lowkey kinda late, ngl. But props Russia, way to getnuclear!

Public perception of nuclear power "has been defined almost by its failures rather than by its successes", and the industry has thus adopted a defensive posture, Adi Paterson, CEO of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation told delegates at the International Youth Nuclear Congress on 9 March. The challenge now for the 250 IYNC attendees is: "How to change the narrative of nuclear in a deep and profound way," he said.

US-based Climate Coalition is urging New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to suspend the closure of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, due to take place later this month. Closing the plant now will add unnecessarily to New York City's vulnerability as state resources are stretched dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, the group says.
