My review of the Odyssey movie:
(Small spoilers ahead)
Just saw the odyssey and I have a few things to say. It is a good movie, but I would not call it a good adaptation of the odyssey. They took out some of my favorite parts from the original book, and messed up quite a few of the character arcs. I wanted to see the “nobody” scene, I wanted to see Penelope’s bed trick, I wanted to see more of the gods themselves.
If you separate this movie from the odyssey and think of it as its own story, it is objectively a good movie. But they are actively trying to adapt the odyssey into a movie, and because of that, it is subpar at best. This review might be too harsh, but I love Greek mythology and recently I have seen a few adaptations of the odyssey that I really enjoyed! This however, was the weakest adaptation I have seen in a hot second.
If we are thinking of the movie as separate from the book, I’d give it an 8.5/10, but because we are not and this is supposed to be an adaptation of the book, I give it a 5/10.
I’d like to reiterate: I loved the movie! Just, not the best adaptation of the odyssey.
Just finished reading the “Poison Ivy the virtuous cycle” comics. It was one of those reads where I related to her almost an uncomfortable amount- (for reference I’m studying to be a botanist and honestly lowk prefer plants to people)
So in my probably biased opinion: I give it 9/10 stars. It’s not the best Ivy comic I’ve ever read but man was it really really good.
I just saw an early showing of supergirl and I don’t wanna say much cuz I don’t wanna spoil anything. as someone who has looked up to her since I was like 5, I fuckin loved this movie. It doesn’t try to make Kara someone who she isn’t, they don’t try to make her fit into the mold of a “normal” female superhero. And I am so goddamn grateful for that. 10/10 best female superhero movie I’ve ever seen (and prolly in my top 5 superhero movies in general)
Oh my god??? I just watched Project hail marry and I think it’s my new favorite movie??? I started crying in the theater and I feel like that really says something about how good the movie is cuz I’m on the max dose of antidepressants my doctor could legally prescribe. 10/10 no notes.
My review on George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” (ft me, an AFAB 16 year old who thinks they know a lot of things but probably knows jackshit about everything!)
Ok, this book changed my perspective on life. Like I don’t even know how to explain it! Good ole Mr. Orwell decided to take my world view and my perspective on life and my thoughts on my government and just turn it upside down using literal fascist pigs. Like considering the state of my government (I live in the US btw) this book was quite insightful and I think that everyone should read it at some point of their lives.
I give this book a 10/10, I think it’s my new favorite book-
Hello there! This is my review of the backrooms movie as I just saw it at my local theater that hasn’t been updated since the 80s;
I don’t want to spoil anything, but I really liked the movie and the message. While I was watching it felt genuinely afraid for the characters, I feel like the movie did a good job of making me feel the way I do while playing the game; completely on edge. I felt a sense of anticipation and dread for whatever would come next, and for me movies like that are hard to find.
Overall my rating is 9/10 creepy VHS tapes. The concept and format of the movie differs from what I’ve seen in all the horror movies I’ve watched in my 16 years of life (I’d say I’ve watched a good amount). I would highly recommend that you watch it if you like psychological horrors, but if you’re not a horror person you likely will not like the movie.
