The Spider’s Lost Jewel

They didn’t know who she was, or even her name but they did know one thing…they let her walk away. But why did they? Was it because Boss’s Ghost told them too? Or rather because her own ghost warned them to leave her be else he would kill them like their counterparts from his world?

She was like them but not…fighting tooth and nail to protect her family who were maybe still are suffering. She thanked them for helping her but before questioned why they didn’t just kill her?

But she still looked at the world kindly despite what it had done to her and her family

How could she do such a thing?

And yet…

She was curious and sweet like Boss

She was strong and crafty like Boss

She fought to get what she wanted like Boss

Before that fateful day and after it but still not like them

She didn’t really judge them, her eyes full of nothing but curiosity; but was that really true or just the naivety and desperation of a broken child?

But that didn’t matter…all they wanted was to catch see her again

Would see have developed a Nen ability or perhaps she didn’t and just stayed at her home wherever that was

How old was she?

What was she like?

Did she have friends?

How would she react to them now?

Gold hair, brown eyes, a bright voice…she could be anywhere or maybe closer

All they know is that Boss wants her back

And the order once they find her?

They weren’t sure…would they kill her or just keep her?

The Spider usually steals whatever they wanted and didn’t care what they killed but she was different

The ghost described his Jewel as something different… an enemy to put it bluntly

But the Jewel they met was so different yet the same…she was so confusing yet intriguing

And they let her walk away

And if she was unlucky or foolish enough to cross their path they would make sure she couldn’t do that again

Chrollo closed the book she was reading and the Troupe turned to look at her…it was almost the anniversary of the day they let her go

A Requiem for their Lost Jewel

This was the inner thoughts of the Troupe in my current fanfic Huntress x Huntress about a Kurapika who had a number of terrible things done to her and the Kurta but still has them and healed somewhat with them and she met the Troupe during that time in between , but to be clear she is an exciting but abstract concept to them not a person, a pet they really want at best

they've told me the gossip which is that a few years back a 70 yr old man collapsed the bridge at the end of my road by driving his tractor over it, lost his tractor in the river, climbed back up the cliff unscathed, walked an hour home, and then the whole road fell into disrepair and all the campgrounds closed and the once popular waterfall down the road became obscure and secret. so like, be the change you want to see in the world. collapse a bridge to chase out the tourists. also you can lose widespread knowledge in under 10 years if one old man collapses a bridge

Recent discourse reminds me of that cult indoctrination trick that's often used to weed out more difficult marks early on, where they tell you all that you aren't allowed to eat rice on Tuesdays and then if you protest they go "wow SOMEBODY likes rice a little much huh" as if you're the fucking weirdo who cares too much about how much rice is consumed between Monday and Wednesday instead of them.

And this forces you to decide whether your autonomy matters to you more than the approval of the group - while they'll still act like you're on thin ice either way, if you give in at this point they know you're theirs forever, because now they've established a foothold, you've shown a moral weakness, which they will brand you with so it can be used against you in the future ("hey RICE-addict here doesn't want help break into the city records office") to force you to double-down and isolate you further.

And if instead you do decide to push back further, after your abrupt departure from the group ("You're seriously leaving us over RICE?!? Seriously?") and subsequent ostracism, you can then be used as a demonstration to the others who were more pliable, of how the outgroup is full of people like you who are obsessed with violating the No-Tuesday-Rice rule to the point where they'll abandon all their friends, who cared so much for them, so it clearly isn't an arbitrary restriction, you're the kind of monster these rules are intended to protect them from, thus all the other wise and esoteric precepts of the charismatic leader are implied to be equally justified.

Shitty partners, bosses, friends - they all do variants of this where if you kick back the first time they make an unreasonable request, it proves you weren't ever committed since you'd let such a small thing ruin everything. you may be familiar with disney twisted wonderland, the gacha game in which various disney villains are used as direct inspiration for handsome anime boys. well that game was so successful that disney is trying to do it again but this time they're just animeboyifying whatever

here's mickey, goofy, donald, and chip & dale. yeah they turned mickey & friends into anime boys. they're an idol unit or something. they're technically not anime boy versions of the source characters, they have different names. mickey's guy is "Neo Michel". not michael, michel, like he's french. chip & dale are "Ruska Moncrief" and "Ranka Monk", they have different last names, they're not brothers anymore so that they can be yaoibait instead, anyways this post isn't actually about these guys I'm just setting the stage for the actual humanizations I wanted to show you
