i feel like a lot of fandoms pride themselves on being gayer than the source material but have they considered being less racist and less misogynistic than the source material as well . could be revolutionary
it just pisses me off that any discussion of fatphobia has to get earmarked with "but it's okay if you personally want to lose weight!" "not insulting anyone in their own weight loss journey!" etc. weight loss is constantly advertised, medically mandated, and socially demanded of us by our peers, friends, coworkers, families, lovers, and any particularly chatty strangers. i promise that everyone will be okay and survive if they very very occasionally have to hear a fatty say something about body politics without first paying appropriate lip service to the enforcement of the norm and how utterly valid it actually is
everyone get fatter in 2026
It always ends up drivel
i think this whole thing with richard siken right now is proof that queer youth are so far removed from the aids epidemic and the consequences it had on queer elders. for them aids isn’t a lived experience, it’s not something they went through, the perception of it now comes from media and it’s seen as this navigable, preventable, even curable thing instead of a systemic attack on queer men that wiped out hundreds of thousands.
our queer elders are so low in number because in the mid-90s 1 in 15 queer men had died in the epidemic. doctors refused to touch them. men were dying in secret and begging their friends to break into their houses and erase the evidence that they were gay so their families didn’t know. they were dying alone.
richard siken lived and lost through this and poured everything he went through, his pain, his loss, his ability to love, into his poetry and to see people making a mockery of it now, to see people— queer people, at that— trying to ridicule him for being bothered that his work is being decontextualised to apply to a ship is so, so disheartening.
being obsessed with your own ocs is its own kind of torment nexus. "i miss them so much :(((" and they're literally in your brain.
*insert animation budget cut joke*

i hate the giant follow buttons all over the dashboard never in my life have i wanted to follow someone from the dashboard without looking at their blog first & i ESPECIALLY never want to follow someone just because my mutual reblogged from them. but i DO want to block people based off a single post on the dashboard all the time & hate that i have to go to their blog to do so. in an ideal world dashboard would look like this:
Been thinking about Rem as a God-like figure in Trigun, both in the religiously symbolic sense that is so commonly drawn upon for a multitude of characters within the story, but also in a narrative sense.
People talk about the religious symbolism in Trigun a lot, for obvious reasons, especially when it comes to the Plants. Vash is often discussed as a Christ-like figure, with Knives being more akin to Lucifer, as well as the comparison to Cain and Abel when discussing their sibling relationship; the whole idea of warring brothers is a very Biblical concept. All this combined with the very explicit angelic imagery.
But what does this mean for Rem as their mother/parental figure? Personally, I've always interpreted her as a stand-in for God in the narrative, and this goes beyond her role as mother to Vash and Knives. She is the one ultimately responsible for human life surviving on No Man's Land/Gunsmoke. If not for her intervention, humans would have never made it to the surface, let alone had the resources to survive it. Not only does she take on a guiding parental role to the twins who are just steeped in religious allegory, she is also the key figure in thwarting Knives' plan, ensuring human life lands safely on the planet and is able to survive there.
It also makes a lot of sense that we view her mostly through Vash's POV, the way he idolises and puts her on a pedestal. She and her philosophy on life are defining features of his morality, as well as the driving force behind many of the choices he makes throughout the story.
But as always, one of Trigun's overarching themes is the critique of religious and faith-based worship. It is a key turning point in the narrative when Vash is finally able to reconcile his idea of Rem with the reality that she was a fallible person who taught a philosophy lacking the context that Vash is currently experiencing; that although she acted the way she did out of love, her philosophy was still flawed, and holding himself so strictly to this idea he has of what she would have wanted is actually holding him back from doing what he needs to do.
Vash doesn't need to completely turn away from the message she tried to pass on to him, but he does have to learn to take accountability for his own actions instead of always falling back on that one philosophy, and he has to learn how to live for himself and make informed decisions based on his own experiences, whilst still allowing himself to find comfort in her teachings.

remember kids, the moral of "Irish and Italians weren't even considered White yet!" isn't "because in those times people were so ignorant they didn't think the Irish were white". the moral is "because white is an unreal category created to justify slavery and ongoing hoarding of power and wealth". It's not that you know better about Italians. It's that the boundaries of the higher caste have changed.
