Speaking as a long time dm who's just finished another session in a campaign, does anyone else just feel pure dread after every session?

Like, I put everything I have into them, often lasting over six hours with tons of prep time, but even with verbal praise I just feel this.... anxiety? It might just be jittery from being drained, but god, for something I put my heart into it sure is a terrible drop afterwards.

I'm probably talking nonsense, but I wonder if anyone else gets that

oh absolutely. I usually call this the "DM downs" but I'm sure it has lots of other names and different manifestations. For me, I usually feel really drained, almost overwhelmingly so. We often hang up really quickly after the end of sessions, when I wish we had time to sit and debrief together about the game.

Usually I've spent a week (or longer) thinking about a session, three or more hours actively preparing for the session (often right before we play), and then three or so hours actually playing - and then it's done. It's so abrupt.

Anyone have any advice here?

Shoot, It's kinda the opposite for me, I get the 'DM Downs' during the session where I feel like I didnt make the session interesting enough and then at the end I kinda press for feedback to see if they actually enjoyed it, the only time I really get the Downs after a session is as a player when I make a stupid decision. I do understand that feeling of abruptness after a session tho. As for advice? For me asking for feedback and what my players liked about the session helps cause it helps feed my 'need external validation' part of my brain, in the end I think as long as everyone had fun that's what matters. This could have been a lot of nothing, if it was I apologize, I'm usually a lurker but I related a lot to this so I wanted to speak on it.
