This is my first sharpen set - it's 5 different actions with some subtle differences, but just try them out on whatever you are working with and pick which works best for you.
All of the actions are frame to timeline frame - meaning you don't need to save and reopen your gifs to save them as 0.05 speed as that is already done for you. It's my ✨lazy girl action✨ for photoshop.
so i've noticed a trend recently with maybe new gifmakers or tumblr users where they only tag gifsets with the name of the media and not [media]edit and i just want to remind everyone that the [media]edit tag system emerged because it is impossible to properly filter tumblr searches and having an unfiltered mess of text posts, gifsets, fanfic, spam etc all in the general media tags makes it REALLY hard to find gifsets to reblog which is WHY the [media]edit tagging system was implemented in the first place, like that was a grassroots tumblr creator movement and it was the best thing we ever did as a collective and we need to keep doing it please i am begging y'all i cannot go back to scouring the general tags for gifsets like it's 2011 please please please keep using [media]edit for your gifsets
i get that there are catch-all blogs now for all film edits and more popular blogs who follow #user[user] tags and that you might want to rely on them to see and reblog your posts and boost them but i am begging y'all to keep using edit tags as well. tumblr's tagging system now indexes the first 20 tags, so you can tag users AND still use the [media]edit tag, both for those of us who browse the edit tags and for people in 2 or 5 or 10 years who suddenly get into a long-dead media and want to find gifsets to reblog but don't want to go searching through 500 different fandom blogs to find the good ones (i say, from experience).
if you need help with working out the edit tag format or if you just want more information about why the edit tag system is the best thing about this website, send me an ask and i might make a longer info post about it.
Soon, ads will start appearing on Tumblr blog sites (think: [yourblog].tumblr.com). Ads help support Tumblr and keep the platform running. We know your Tumblr blogs have been where you showcase your art, host your work, and gather your people. We want to be upfront about what’s changing and how you can manage the experience on your blog.
Here's what you need to know 👇
Who will see ads (and who won’t)
Premium users and blogs with custom domains: If you have a Premium subscription, or you’ve bought a custom domain for your blog, your blog site will stay ad-free for all visitors.
Premium users everywhere: If you have Premium, you won’t see ads on any Tumblr blog site. Even ones that aren’t Premium. You stay in your ad-free bubble, wherever you go.
Everyone else: Visitors may see ads when browsing your blog site.
How to remove ads from your blog site
If you’d prefer not to have ads on your blog site, you have two options:
Upgrade to Tumblr Premium (and unlock extra perks like early access to new features, Blaze credits, and higher post limits)
Purchase a custom domain for your blog
With either option, your blog site will stay ad-free for everyone. This change won’t affect how you post, create, or connect, but it’s important you know exactly what’s happening and how to control the experience on your blog site.
The template was made in Photoshop CC; it will work on Photopea!

hi! i was trying to follow this gifmaking guide (https://www.tumblr.com/valeofwings/691318688857620481/squishmoon-gif-making-tips-tricks) and i have a question. how do you resize gifs at 540/542 and it be less than 10mb???
after my coloring and sharpening and everything i’ll resize the image to 540 and its always way more than 10mb and i noticed yours was like 3??? HOW!!!! this has been my biggest problem with giffing and ive been doing it for like two years. i MUST be missing some crucial step right??? plz tell me the secret.
my clips arent crazy long. i dont even do crazy elaborate edits just basic coloring and text. i always have to size down to like 400, sometimes even less for it to be under 10mb. but i know that hinders the quality. if you can tell me the answer to this problem i will give you a puppy.
Hi! I think for me, I've found that if you choose to gif a scene with either not a lot of movement (background stuff especially) or a lot of different colours, it can bring down the file size too. The gifs in my post, the Elvis clips were a lot of black in the background and the Moonknight was more blue/white tones and I've always found that I can get more frames in when there isn't as much movement or a ton of different colours. I'm not sure if there's any logic behind that, but I've always found that worked for me.
I also use the method of screencaps for giffing and I cap in the JPEG format. It's a smaller file size than using PNG for example. So I think that helps as well. And I generally only use 1080p as the maximum file size, I rarely use 4K because I found I was able to use less frames for those.
I can't think of anything else I do other than those, but if you need more help let me know, but I hope these tips help you!
Hi! Thanks so much for asking <3 The gif referenced is below and the tutorial is below the cut! This is my first tutorial, so hopefully everything is clear enough.
Feel free to tag me using #emilyblr if you try it! If this is helpful, I'd appreciate you liking and/or reblogging this post to let me know. 🩵
NOTE: If something doesn't make sense or you don't see the settings, click on the photo! They are cropped in order to unify the size, however if you click on it you will see the full picture I included.
EDIT: For some reason, the formatting gets messed up for me when you click the read more on the dashboard. But if you go to this post on my blog, the photos seem to be in the correct places!
I. Create Your Base Text
First I create a new text layer and figure out my font settings (font, size, etc.). The text color should be white.
The picture on the right shows my settings—I like to unify the layer position and effects so that it applies to my entire gif (note: I make frames from layers so it's necessary for me; I'm not sure if it is necessary if you do the text in timeline).
Change the blending mode to exclusion (right), which gives you the image on the left.
Right click on the text layer and go to blending options. First I select drop shadow and use the settings in the photo on the top right.
Add gradient overlay. For this particular gifset, I used overlay for the blend mode (bottom left). The blend mode I use for the gradient changes based on the gif and the coloring, so play around with what blend mode looks best to you!
Add color overlay. I also play around with the blend mode and opacity for each gif; in this case, I set it to color burn and 50% opacity.
This is what we have so far.
II. Create Text Outline
Right click your text layer and duplicate the layer.
Open blending options and de-select drop shadow, gradient overlay, and color overlay (alternatively, you can right click and clear effects before opening blending options, but this is the way I do it).
Go to the blending options panel and set fill opacity to 0%.
Add stroke with the settings pictured in the bottom right picture (1px, white, inside, normal blend). The opacity for this gif is set to 58%, but I play around with the opacity for each gifset.
Use the arrow keys to offset the outline however you would like. I usually move it slightly to the left and up, as shown above.
III. Masking
Create a new text layer and style it how you would like. In this case, I just added a drop shadow with the settings pictured on the right.
Move the text layer to where you would like it to be (left).
Use the rectangular marquee tool to select the area with your text layer (top left).
Make sure you have the base text layer selected (top right).
With your text area selected, add a mask by clicking the third button from the left in the layers panel (bottom right). Now we have the image on the bottom left.
Select the mask you created and invert it, which gives you the image on the top left.
Hold the option key and drag the mask for your base text layer to the outline layer.
IV. Finishing Touches
Now that the focal text has been added, I can finish adding the rest of the text. And that's it!

Created by me using Photoshop CC 2025
Uses Camera Raw Filter

This is my first time making sharpen actions for photoshop but I like how these turned out and thought I would share for anyone that might find them useful.
There are 6 versions, with some subtle differences, so hopefully you find one that works for you. Some of them use Camera Raw Filter so your Photoshop will need to have that for these actions to work.
All of the actions are frame to timeline frame - meaning you don’t need to save and reopen your gifs to save them as 0.05 speed as that is already done for you. (anything that saves time when gif making is a must!)
I just hit 8k followers in January, and I've never really done a celebration giveaway before. And not many do nowadays, but I figured someone out here may benefit from a new action or two!
You are authorized to change or add-on to my actions as you seem fit, but please do not redistribute them as your own work. If you are to take pieces from these actions to create your own and end up redistributing them, please credit this post.

Disclaimers:
Basic colorings used in examples are not part of the actions.
These actions were made in Photoshop so they will not be compatible for PS-alternative programs like Photopea.
These will only work with the frame load-in way of making gifs with scripts. They do all the work for you including converting your frames into timeline.
Many of these contain camera raw filter. If you have an older version of photoshop that doesn't have this feature, some may not work properly.
If your computer doesn't have decent RAM, converting gifs that contain raw camera filter may be a struggle for your computer. If this is true for you, you can try deleting this feature from the applicable actions or making the smart filter invisible before saving, but unfortunately you won't get the full benefit of the action.
Creator's Notes:
⭐︎ V1 Basic: Self-explanatory, can be used on just about anything.
⭐︎ V2 Soft: If you still prefer softer looking gifs this could be your go-to; brightens colors naturally.
⭐︎ V3 Depth: Creates contrast that makes the subjects appear more HD.
⭐︎ V4 Texture: Similar to V3 but with less noise; has a slight smoothing effect; Brightens colors naturally.
⭐︎ V5 Ultra Sharp: This can can be used on anything if your footage is high quality enough but looks great with 4K footage including 4K youtube videos. Looks AWFUL on anything with high grain though.
⭐︎ Animation (soft): Looks good on animation that has harsh lines.
⭐︎ Universal (crisp): Similar to V1 with more contrast. This also looks good on most animation.
