speaking of early reading. in kindergarten I remember being furiously angry and refusing to read the books they gave us because I had already read the hobbit and they wanted me to read about this fucking thing:
which like. if I hadn’t learned to read at home before starting school I don’t think I would have learned to read via reading lessons simply because the content was so condescending. I don’t know why they thought 5-6 year olds would want to read about this fucking creature. every word of huggles was a punishment.
we urgently need to stop being this condescending to children. urgently
