In an unknown and yet utterly unsurprising mirror to his date, Laurent was briefly struck by a wave of panic for not having been an appropriate escort for Gideon. His family must never know, he decided in that moment. His parents would despise the lack of decorum and the lack of any social awareness, especially a Prewett. His sister was likely to punch him in the arm hard enough to bruise when she heard he hadn't even considered it. Laurent's arm already ached in phantom sympathy for its future.
But that was a problem for a different Laurent, one not here now with Gideon Prewett across from him in a suit so classic it was without a doubt timeless. The other man was by far the best looking one at the ball, even with the arrival of an entirely new school. Laurent Borgin, despite dying from a curse, was possibly the luckiest man in the world.
"Oh, I see how this is going to go, us flying in circles all night about who's the better looking one," Laurent lightly laughed with the wave of a hand. "I'm sure we both think the other is the definition of loveliness and won't be convinced otherwise." Even if Gideon certainly had Laurent beat. "Don't worry about the dancing," Laurent added, drifting into thought for a moment. "You can't be worse than a five year old at her first ever pureblood function when it comes to toe stepping. I think I still have bruises from that and it was years ago. I got it, though I think I'd better lead?"
Looking around the grand room, decorated to within an inch of its life, Laurent leaned slightly into Gideon. "You're always so warm," he muttered. "Have you seen anything you want to do besides dance and snack? I just got here, after all."
Gideon was very much out of his depth in his relationship with Laurent. He had never had a relationship before at least not one that was serious and though they hadn't been together that long Gideon was very serious about his future with Laurent. He always thought of his future plans in regards of how Laurent would fit into them. He adored him more than he would ever dare to say out loud.
"I suppose you should lead in the dance yes. I don't think you would enjoy my leading. I tried to dance with my cousin at her birthday party last year and she told me I was not to dance with anyone for the rest of the night. Can you imagine being banned from dancing? I thought it was quite rude." He reached out to wrap an arm around Laurent's shoulders pulling him a bit closer as the moved about the room.
"I wouldn't mind seeing my siblings at some point tonight and we should check on Penelope as well and make sure she's alright. Our sisters no doubt look splendid and we have to make sure no one is bothering them."
