based on some interpretations i have of berdly's dialogue, i don't think he'd confess first. i think what he does is try to get kris to tell him they like him so he can accept their confession instead of having to risk rejection himself. so kris scores the first "i love you" easily.

i'm basing this idea off of how he acts during the phone call ("if you want my hand, you'll have to fight for it" is basically him encouraging kris to make a move and prove they actually want this) and the way he always tries to analyze kris's feelings and motives, like he's hoping they'll tell him he's right. but maybe that's a stretch?
