Fic idea

So I have this ghost au. Where Leia is followed around by the spirit of Padmé who only she can see and hear. It makes for a fun dinner when child Leia asks about her twin brother.

Bail(trying not to freak out): Your brother, sweetie? Where did you hear that?

Leia: Mom told me.

Breha(confused): I never told you that.

Leia(in a "adults are silly" voice): Not you, Mama. Mom told me. She wants to know where you took Luke and if you don't tell her, she'll tell Mama what happened to the last slice of the quinberry cake

Bail(as Breha glares at him): Let's go to Tatooine.

Leia(eyes wide): Uh, I don't think I'm allowed to repeat those words.

Then Bail and Leia arrive on Tatoonie, find the Lars homestead. To their surprise Obi-Wan is already there. He asks in a deadpan voice what ghost is following Leia. When Bail asks how he knows, Obi-Wan informs him that Luke has a ghost following him as well. Luke(as he comes out of the homestead): Grandma, Aunt Beru says you have to stop cursing Old Ben out in Huttese.

Obi Wan: I always did wonder where Anakin got his colorful language from.

So Luke and Leia get to spent time with each other as well as their Grandma Shmi and their mother.

Then, years later, upon meeting Leia, Darth Vader senses a presence next to her...

Fox had been in desperate need of a break. He knew that, so did they.

They move quietly, gingerly lifting his pathetic body from the chair. He’s useless in their arms. He knew that, so did they.

His head is guided, warm cheek pressed against them, face tucked under their chin. It’s comfortable. Did he know that? They did.

Bail: That is incredibly rude of them. Fox: Isn't it!? Ugh...

Leia Organa: They had a fight

Rouge: Then why are they still holding hands?

Leia: They get sad when they fight

Bail Organa: Sweet dog you got there.

ISB Agent: Yes, this is our new bomb sniffing dog.

Bail: Still training, huh?

ISB Agent: What do you mean?

Bail:

Bail: Nothing...

Leia Organa: *Screams*

Rouge Prestor: *Screams louder to assert dominance*

Breha Organa: Should we do something?!

Bail Organa, observing: No, I want to see who wins this.

Bail Organa: I’m not pouting, I’m brooding.

Breha: It’s how sexy men pout.

you're owen lars. your mother's been kidnapped and you have to assume the worst. a man and a woman step into your home and the man announces himself to be that kid who went off to become a jedi. he knows you less than you know him and before anything else can happen, he takes off to bring back his mother, a feat you think is impossible.

you're owen lars. anakin skywalker brings your mom's corpse to your doorstep. her funeral is interrupted by a message of utmost galactic importance.

you're owen lars. your brother is dead. you never saw him again after that first time. there is another jedi on your doorstep, with a baby in his arm and you know what it means and you can't bring yourself to face him as he hands your nephew off to your wife.

you're owen lars. obi-wan ben kenobi is a pain in the ass. he was more your brother's brother than you ever were and he doesn't understand your particular kind of grief, is drowning in his own. you don't even know the full story and kenobi will never tell you all of it. but you have a child to care for so you tell him off and get back to work.

you're owen lars. you didn't know your brother, but you know your nephew and your nephew wants out of this place as soon as possible. you know he won't be safe out there but in the end you're helpless to stop him. and you know the stories, you remember the one time you met him, the days your mother died. and you do this for her and you do this for your father and you do this for your brother and you do this for your nephew.

you're owen lars. your last act is to protect your brother's child. your child.

Something that ticks me off a little is how people always say Luke and Leia get their traits from Anakin and Padmé.

Sure, it could be because of the fact they're literally family. But it also erases the fact that Beru, Owen, Bail, and Breha raised them. To me it feels as though their efforts raising the twins were erased, that their sign of love isn't reflected on them.

In my opinion Luke most definitely got his empathy from Beru, and his lack of filter from Owen. Leia most definitely got her boldness and strength from Breha, and her sense of formality and the need to help from Bail.

“She is family,” Breha said.

“At the very least, she deserved prison,” Ferus said.

“She is family,” Breha repeated softly.

“You could be putting yourself in danger,” Ferus said. “They could track her down. They could still use her.”

“If I make a mistake, I’d rather do it on the side of forgiveness,” Bail said.

To this, Ferus had no answer. The Holocron burned inside his tunic and he knew what the voice would say. It is foolish not to destroy your enemies. Foolish and cowardly.

But Ferus looked with his heart at Bail and Breha, and thought they were among the bravest people he'd ever known.
