Children swear all the time. Adults swear all the time. However, mix these two groups, and suddenly everyone pretends swearing is awful and they would never ever do such thing.

You never think it'll happen here...
When I heard about the mass shooting in San Bernardino I was shocked. Yes, it isn't the safest city in the state, or probably the country, but this event was still unexpected. To then hear the shooters lived in my city. Just 5 minutes from my own home, I realized how real the whole thing was. Once the shooting was labeled an act of terror, I became numb. Watching the events in Paris unfold on the news mad me think that big, metropolitan cities weren't going to be safe anymore. Having a similar event happen 15 minutes away from your home. Learning that it wasn't just an attack but an indicator that these individuals were planning something bigger. Just 5 minutes from your home. Made me realize that no where is safe. Extremists (regardless of their political or religious beliefs) are among us. They're allowing their pain and ignorance to fester and breed hatred. They turn on their fellow humans for unclear reasons, and we're left to pick up the pieces. I don't know if stronger gun laws could have saved those people. I don't know what can solve this because it is a problem in our society, our culture, our humanity. I just never thought something like this would happen here.
