2013: Yahoo!
Tumblr announces that Yahoo! and Tumblr have reached an agreement for Yahoo! to acquire Tumblr for $1.1 billion in cash.
2012: Advertising
Tumblr announces they are moving towards paid advertising on its site, two months later they feature there first major brand advertising campaign in conjunction with Adidas.
2011: Campaign
Obama's campaign team uses Tumblr for election efforts. Tumblr raises 85$ million in capital and is valued at 800$
2008: $$$$
1st round of money --> $750 thousand, 2nd round --> $4.5 million in investments.
2007: Tumblr launches
Tumblr launches on February 19. Within the first two weeks, seventy five thousand people join the service. Six months later, the reblog button is added to the Tumblr dashboard. Karp and Arment stop taking clients to Focus on Tumblr.
2006: Hires Marco Arment
David just left Urban Baby. He creates a software consultancy company named Davidville he then hires Marco Arment as an engineer.
2003: Moving to Japan
David is 17 and has decided to move to Tokyo. He thinks that it will help to focus on his dreams and be at the heart of the world. He is still working for UrbanBaby, but they don't know that he is moving to Japan.
2002: First job
John Mahoney has just hired Karp as a programmer at UrbanBaby, a website for hip urban moms.
2001: Dropping out
David has officially dropped out of school, he's only 15 and wants to be homeschooled. He says it will be "easier to impress the colleges".
2000: Becoming an Intern
David just got a job as an intern at Frederator Studios. He is 14 and already working for Fred Seibert at his cartoon production company (Frederator Studios) in Manhattan. He is considering dropping out of school to help his future career.
1997: David learns HTML
David is attending Calhoun School in the upper west side of Manhattan and is starting to show interest in computers. He he's teaching himself how to code at only 11 years old!
July 6th 1986: The Birth Of A Tech
New York City, Barbara Ackerman gives birth to a baby boy. She'll be naming him David, David Karp.
