do you ever watch a movie/show and just think ‘oh yeah this was really nice’ and then come on tumblr and see people writing essays about it and go like.. damn maybe I should use my brain a bit more
here you go professor. several pages of home brewed bullshit. as opposed to the chatgpt-brewed bullshit you're used to these days. i hope u enjoy it i worked very hard on it ❤️
Pulling your tags @throughalleternity because this prof 100% confirms. Same thing for writing full of the hiccups of English language learners
Also that home-brewed bullshit is often more thoughtful and insightful than its author realized it was
Also also I am increasingly convinced that the best solution to the problem of students cheating with AI is to abolish grades

For me the thing I always get stuck on about the deaths of marginalized characters in fiction, is how often the exact same argument gets trotted out, that their death “serves the story”.
And I always, unfailingly, think the same thing. “I guess I just thought it was their story, too.”
the most fascinating thing for me in all of this has been realizing how many people think wheel of time is a tragedy or even a story where tragic things regularly happen to good and just people.
to me it is *so clearly* a story of hope and of agency. isn’t that the whole point of veins of gold? of egwene’s desperate last act to reverse balefire and save the world? of moiraine tackling lanfear through a doorway with only a chance of rescue, despite knowing if not rescued she will suffer eternal torment? of perrin and faile outnumbered by trollocks in the two rivers but fighting anyway? of nynaeve getting malkier to follow lan? of siuan finding a way to move forward after her entire life until now is taken from her? of verin using every ounce of her cunning to help the light even when bound to the dark? of mat entering a tower to do what he knows to be impossible? of morgase waving that tiny flag?
people suffer. they sacrifice. but the whole point in my mind is that things do not idly happen to us. we *always* can do something. even the dragon reborn, a figure of prophecy, charts his own path.
Sophie Okonedo as SIUAN SANCHE in The Wheel of Time Season 3
and when I say these writers have never understood siuan or her arc, or what was so inspiring to me even as a 12 year old reading about how a 40+ year old woman having her whole career and life taken away from her and still choosing to get up and keep going and keep fighting and MAKING A DIFFERENCE
the writers have never understood what made siuan great and irreplaceable and so I'm not surprised that they did this
Even if they 100% believed they had to kill her (which I don't agree with), they didn't have to kill her like that
I guess it's time to stop recommending Wheel of Time as a queer show
I hate to say it but at least in this moment, this decision also diminishes my attachment to Moiraine. Like the anger I’m feeling and the dignity harm are 100% about Siuan, but so much of my love for Moiraine is tied to her dedication and that dedication is tied so intrinsically to the way she and Siuan love each other and what they are both giving up to save the world. I don’t want to watch Moiraine deal with losing Siuan, that’s not interesting to me. That’s not a sacrifice. That’s not a decision. That tells me nothing about her except that she loved Siuan, *which we already know.*
I almost don’t care if Moiraine lives or dies anymore. If she dies at least she and Siuan can be together. If she [book plot] I don’t care since Siuan can’t be included in its resolution. Moiraine has barely interacted with the people who are involved in the book plot resolution, where’s the emotional resonance. If she lives, what is she living for without Siuan? Rand? I don’t care. Rand can win with her dead too.
