I started this dress for my MtF trans sister 09/09/23 and it is FINALLY done! Most of it was done by early 2024 but life got in the way. She ended up losing something like 50 lbs between then and now (maybe more) so I had to adjust things but it is GLORIOUS!!
Posted her face with permission from her except one photo where it was an unflattering expression but a flattering profile.

Somehow managed to make 2 Cosplays, working on a 3rd, and a bathroom remodel, during the busiest time of the year at my job (yay taxes!).
Now the question is: do I try wearing it to a Con or not. There are only 2 foreseeable outcomes to it: either there is zero recognition, or there will be exactly 1 person who is also obsessed with nearly 30 year old anime that also happened to watch the season that was never put to DVD and I will make their life.
Decisions decisions. XD

Anyway, I have decided that 2026 is gonna be the year of, "fuck it, we ball". There is so much bullshit going on in the world I cannot control, but I can make cosplay that hopefully puts a smile on someone's face. If even 1 person feels better looking at the garbage I post then it's worth it.
I already have 2 cosplay done so far and am starting on a third. Will I wear them to a con? Probably not. Honestly I'm trying to get back to my roots and remind myself that things don't have to be competition pieces all the time. That said I have decided that I'm going to start entering in bigger competitions that may end up going international. Something that challenges me technically but doesn't require my socially awkward self to try for an equally awkward performance. I even have a couple of pieces picked out to do this with. Stay tuned because each will have their own post.
Anyway, I hope folks out there in the ether have as good of a day/week/month/year as they can. :)

Belle, Beauty & The Beast, 2018
I made this gown for a very good friend of mine. It was always her dream to cosplay Belle but she doesn't sew that much and didn't have the space to make it. So I decided to take it on. I had to custom dye the bottom material, which is the same material as the skirt just flipped around.
I freaking LOVE how this dress came out! Probably one of my most beautiful pieces to date! She loved being in it, and my photographer took AMAZING shots. She IS Belle in these pictures! So proud of this one!!
Photos were take at the UW Seattle Campus (Suzzalo Library as well as the Rose Garden).
Winter Fairy, Ren Faire, 2013
A Winter themed "fairy" costume I made one year. I loved the overall look and makeup cast against the summer/autumn theme of the event! I rarely do makeup so I'm glad I have pictures of what I did as proof that, when I actually care to do so, I can do makeup!
.... no, wait.... I think my friend actually did the makeup.... dammit!
Costume was a whole lot of Polyester so it was hoooottttt! Not a good choice in materials but it looked pretty!
Mushroom Heartless, Kingdom Hearts, 2010?
One of most popular Cosplays next to my Elegy Statue (Ben Drowned). Made it on a lark because I loved Kingdom Hearts and thought the Mushroom Heartless were too adorable for words! And then I made another.... a Golden Trichiloma.... that became Squeaky. And boy howdy did it take off after that point! I actually made the majority of the Heartless in the second picture too! I did not make the mint-colored one behind my white one and I didn't make the coat for the Organization XIII one but I made the head and the rest of the visible Mushrooms!
It was a very good year that year!
Custom Painted N64, 2019
I love the N64 so naturally I custom painted my own! Took way longer than I want to admit but IT'S SO PRETTY LOOK AT IT!!!
Put a purple LED in it so it matches the new theme. My EverDrive lives in this so I can play any N64 game any time I like.
Haku, Naurto, 2007/08
Another of my earlier Cosplays. This was doing my early phase, you know the one!
"Time management, what's that taste like? I'm young and can stay up for days so I don't need to actually PLAN anything! Just do it whenever you feel like it! Also let's volunteer to make at least 2 more Naurto cosplay (Jiraya and Tsunade) because although I'm totally broke and the Con is only 2 weeks away I've got this!"
Ayyyy.... I think it took me 10 years of burnout, leaving pieces behind, exhaustion, failed pieces, and wrecking relationships through failed commissions to start to learn that MAYBE I don't ACTUALLY have this under control, and MAYBE I should slow down and stop promising things that won't happen. Also, my favorite, MAYBE I finish things BEFORE the night before a Con???
...this turned into a weird trip. Anyway, the Cosplay in question. Doesn't look bad from a distance but WHOO BOY don't look closely!
My First Cosplay! 2005, Kagome, Inuyasha
My very first cosplay! I still have it too! I had it framed in a beautiful shadow box and it hangs in my crafting room. Whenever I need inspiration I look at it to remind myself how far I've come in this hobby.
Look upon it in all of it's newb glory! What is bias tape? Hemming? Proportion? Machine tension? Appropriate fabric choice? Pleating?? Never met her!!
Used embroidery thread with an unfamiliar machine to complete the cacophony of fail. :P <3
Fun fact: I dyed my hair for this Cosplay using the L'Oreal Mousse dye. Did NOT work, at all. Had to do a traditional dye. A wig would have been cheaper.
10 year challenge, except more like 15 years
One of my early Cosplays was a lolita dress. Of course it was! Who has done Cosplay and NOT either worn or made a lolita dress??
The first one I did was the red one. I decorated accessories with fake flowers and made a faux corset and had a lot of fun. It was NOT comfortable to wear, like, at all. I listened to my BiL and got what I thought was a poly-linen but in hindsight was just some woven polyester. It was scratchy, shredded a lot at the edges, and overall was a pain. I didn't even wear a petticoat under it! And I was trying to go for puffy upper sleeves but didn't know how to do that right. It took me the better part of a week to make
For the new dress I made it in probably 12 hours. Used a petticoat, all ruffles by hand, actual boning in the corselette, hand tucked, the works. Picture of my beautiful kitty assistant Mia, my now 15 year-old baby girl who is insistent that she has never once received love in their life please pay attention to me now mom!
I have pics somewhere of me actually wearing the new dress: I'll edit this post with that once I find it.

One of the 3 Water Faries in Aria. If you haven't seen Aria I recommend it as a calm, slice of life anime. Very pretty too!
I started cosplaying in 2004 so this is very early in my Cosplay career. I think this was like the 4th or 5th cosplay I ever did? You can see the stitches are uneven, not straight, and questionable techniques were used in putting the "applique" on. It's amazing how different I would do this outfit now rather than how I did it before. Again, we all learn somewhere, and your projects won't be perfect from the start!
That said, maybe don't make the costume and THEN decide to add a lining a year later? That's what the double seam look is: my poor attempt at adding lining to a very thin cotton way after the fact. Not a good move. :P
Euphemia, Code Geass, 2010?
I honestly can't remember when I made this dress. I'm thinking 2009-2010, though didn't take pics for a couple years after that. This dress could use a redo, but I was proud of it at the time (and still am)! I think I used something like 30 yards of Casa Satin for this? Which, in hindsight, seems about right but I for sure didn't use the correct materials. That's okay! We all learn somehow! The other Code Geas cosplayer (Suzaku) in the photo below is, frankly, a MUCH more accomplished cosplayer than I. They were a friend in school and despite being 2 years younger had the art down pat even back then!
