Now that I am home and the fog has cleared, I am going to be far more active here. I see all the wonderful, chaotic messages and theories that have been quietly gathering in my inbox like fallen leaves, and I promise I am going to sit down by the AC and answer them all soon âš

SYNOPSIS
Your story begins where you die, and your fate is far more grim than the pretty fables recounted in books of fantasy and enchantment. With your untimely demise comes the world's end, all whilst you lock gazes with the person who caused it.Â

By will of the Crown, you are forced to join the blue-bloods who are flocked like cattle into a carriage drawn by horses. At the start of the story, Guppy may show signs of stress, anxiety and some depressive tendencies. Over the two years spent away in the city, they grew increasingly anxious and withdrawn, slowly isolating themselves from the people and the life they used to have, for reasons that will be explored throughout the game.
But one of the game's central themes is reclaiming that joy for life: finding yourself again, and getting your spark back. So don't worry, things will get better!

PROGRAMMING
We're currently looking at about a three month timeline for completing the backend programming, plus some other updates.
This will include the in-game shop, additional features, player upgrades, an anti-cheat system, and bug testing. This is really good news!
We're also dropping in the sound effects for the routes, which has been fun. Things like footsteps, doors opening, and background chatter in crowded rooms.

A Tale of Crowns is a high fantasy romance story, told in the form of a text-based interactive novel with choice mechanics. The setting is inspired by Kurdish culture as well as other historical settings in the Middle East such as Ancient Persia, but it also draws heavily from other cultures and countries in the region.
Your character is native to Arsur, a vast empire overseen by a single ruler known as the Crown. Unlike traditional monarchies, however, the title is not inherited through blood. Whenever the Crown dies, their famed golden eyes pass on to the one chosen by the Spirits of this world to be the new Crown. In this story, your MC takes on that role.
There are four different love interests to choose from, whose genders will be customized to suit the preferences of your Crown. You can find more info about them on the blog page!

Programming: Still working on programming Brooklyn's route. In the meantime, we've been testing the other four routes for bugs and issues.
Background Variations: We have the BG variants completed for 4/6 routes. Here's a little change between a sunny day and a more overcast day for one of Leo's backgrounds.
Promotional Material: We've started to commission a set of promotional artwork for the game.
Artbook: We're also moving forward with the artbook. There'll be fun interviews with a few people who worked on IB and some bonus content.

Canon Divergence is the origin story for the rest of the planned (and unplanned) games in The Severed Verse Series. What happens in this game will become legend in the future instalments.
This game is my 'what if I had a silly concept but took it seriously?' project. I'm working consistently for hours a day on it, and it's absolutely a labour of love.

UPDATE OVERVIEW
Programming: Milo's route has been programmed in, along with Tobias and Leo. We're halfway there! Brooklyn will be up next. In the meantime, we're trying to sort out players using their own profile photos/avatars from their camera roll in the chatroom. We should be good for Android, but iOS will take more investigation.
Voice Acting: Last month we received finished lines for the two side characters on Leo's route. The process for line work is time consuming - reviewing the script, sending it to the voice actor, editing the voice file once received, chopping up the audio into many files to match each voice line, and updating the script to make sure it's consistent. But it's very rewarding to hear the finished phone calls.

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.
Even though we are older, we havenât outgrown old fictional friends. To outgrow something is to move on, or move past it, our fictional friends will always still be with us as long as we want them to be.
