I have seen some people say that the Christian symbolism in NGE is completely aesthetic and while it is deeply symbolic and not at all theological, it has a deeper importance to the show, I think.

The series's themes of death and rebirth make it very buddhist but the AT fields themselves are fascinating. The sacred barrier being associated with angels ties childlike innocence to divine purity in a way that is ontological rather than poetic.

The child soldier trope and the fucked up fate of Rei herself are inseparable from this. Kaworu is the clearest angelic child but Rei can almost be seen as a doomed tragic version of the Virgin Mary

now that miku is being added to P5X im gonna share some ideas i had for her persona a while back before the announcement (mostly inspired by the greek themeing of persona 3 rather than any other persona game, also i dont know much about miku at all most of my knowledge comes from my bf) for her base form persona i thought Echo the greek nymph of echoes would work well, my idea was that miku being a voice bank only repeats and echos the words/lyrics given to her by writers to sing just like how an echo can only speak when given a voice, her ultimate persona Mnemosyne the titan mother of the muses and goddess of memory, miku fits this i think because she takes those songs and makes them into memories for the listeners to remember forever and also that she's the main reason most people are into vocaloid, and mnemosnye being the source of artists inspirations connects to miku being one of the most popular forms of creative expression online

One thing which definitely bothers me about Evangelion Rebuild; the lack of politics; the role the Japanese government, the UN and so on played in the old series felt more pronounced than in Rebuild; and I do think that in a Post-fascist country like Japan, this topic shouldn't be left out if we deal with the topics of fatherly authority, emotional trauma, societal interactions (particularly between men and women, but also just in general) and so on. Not that the old series was knee-deep in politics (particularly in comparison to movies like Patlaber 1 & 2), but it atleast acknowledget these things to be a bit more than just window dressing, Rebuild is too lackluster with that imo.
