         𝐀𝐑𝐈  𝐍𝐎𝐃𝐒  𝐅𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍  as  the  liquid  burns  his  throat  then  warms  his  stomach.  he  swirls  the  scotch  around  the  glass,  half-hoping  that  more  would  magically  appear  like  his  movements  were  sorcery  or  something  of  the  sort.  “  well,  at  least  it  hasn’t  come  for  you  with  a  baseball  bat.  you  know  shane  stant-  nancy  kerrigan  style.  ”  ari  nods  towards  his  cane.  “  some  of  us  aren’t  so  lucky.  ”  he  mutters  under  his  breath.  he  returns  his  gaze  to  the  other,  eyes  narrowing  at  her  apparent  paranoia.  “  how  come  you’re  very  …  on  edge  ?  have  you  got  some  outstanding  debts  ?  ooh,  or  have  you  upset  the  illuminati  or  some  cult  alike  ?  ”

“ so did you get hurt by not trying? ” carmen’s not featured in this particular number, and is leaning up against the wall, comfortable as ever. she does not feel like a resident of a glass house, even as she throws stones – it may be a very bad idea, but only time will tell. and at the moment, she feels like testing a boundary or two. besides, last she checked, the choreographer could give as good as he got. “by the way, freud visited me in a dream last night. said some very interesting things about your megaphone.”

           𝐀𝐑𝐈  𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐒  𝐇𝐈𝐒  𝐄𝐘𝐄𝐒,  unprofessional,  immature,  he  knows.  but  does  it  really  matter  ?  with  his  ever  so  noticeable  limp  and  the  sharp  sound  of  his  cane  on  the  school’s  linoleum  floors,  he’s  a  walking  joke.  he  knows  that.  but  his  potential,  his  half-used  talent,  it  shouldn’t  be  wasted,  that  was  what  the  company  said  (  but  for  some  reason  he  heard,  something  -  something  ….  pity  mascot  ….  )  no  matter  how  much  he  wanted  to  spend  his  days  finding  oblivion  and  apathy  at  the  bottom  of  every  expensive  scotch  bottle.  he  smirks  at  the  irony  of  her  words,  he  obviously  did  get  hurt  trying  and  the  pain  in  his  leg  seems  to  exacerbate  just  for  a  second  at  the  public  humiliation.  he  brings  his  beloved  megaphone  to  his  lips,  “  that’s  wonderful  news  darling,  ”  he  tilts  his  head  to  the  side,  “  did  you  get  the  chance  to  ask  him  how  to  alleviate  your  phallic  fixations  ?  ”

          𝐎𝐇    𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓    𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐒,    not    that.    not    the    surprise.    an    awkward    cacophony    of    a    chuckle    falls    from    her    lips    and    the    little    tray    continuous    to    twirl    between    her    arms,    nervous    energy    projecting    into    annoying    fidgeting.    irina    was    not    particularly    gifted    in    the    art    of    surprises.    not    that    she    hated    giving    it    but    that    she    always    seems    to    give    the    wrong    one    (    exhibit    a.    happy    birthday    mom    !    surprise,    here’s    a    really    awesome    shirt,    mom:    irina,    no.    ).    she    nods    her    head    though,    despite    desperately    wanting    to    reject    his    request.    (    i    mean    there’s    a    menu    for    a    reason    !    )    she    then    shakes    her    head,    grimacing,    solidifying    her    stance    against    surprises,    no,    its    just    not    possible    !    but    she    nods    her    head,    opens    her    lips    then    shuts    it    to    give    a    smile.    “    no    problem.    ”    she    grins    widely,    “    um,    just    a    quick    question.    do    you    like    it    more    like    strong    -    sweet    or    strong    -    bitter,    or    a    bit    of    both    ?    ”

                                                𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐖𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓  𝐎𝐅  the  world  was  held  in  between  tight  shoulder  blades.  a  hand  slicing  through  the  air,  limbs  desperate  to  hold  its’  perfection.  the  crackling  sound  from  magdalene’s  old  macbook  echos  through  the  stage,  swallowing  the  presence  on  stage  entirely  as  they  glide  across  the  stage.  choke  on  air  as  feet  stumble,  innocently  like  a  doe  learning  to  walk.  it  was  embarrassing  enough  to  deal  with  such  incompetence  (  remind  us,  how  did  you  work  your  way  so  high  ?  )  but  to  feel  a  pair  of  headlight  eyes  watching  ?  madgalene  begged  for  the  stage  would  swallow  them  whole.  ❛   could  we  pretend  that  never  happened  ?  i  don’t  think  i  can  handle  having  someone  being  a  witness.  ❜’

          𝐎𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐍    𝐓𝐇𝐄    𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄    𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍    𝐌𝐀𝐍    would    be    seated    in    the    middle    of    the    auditorium,    revelling    in    the    silent    company    of    furore’s    ghosts,    imagining    his    steps    on    the    stage,    how    his    hair    would    look,    the    expression    he    should    wear,    the    distance    he    should    leave,    the    position    of    his    arms,    the    lightness    of    his    jumps    ...    the    end    product    of    every    one    of    his    performances    would    be    arduously    imagined    (    re:    manifested    ).    its    his    own    little    tradition    /    superstition.    and    he    doesn’t    enjoy    it    when    his    little    tradition    gets    interrupted.    he    pinches    the    bridge    of    his    nose    as    the    scene    chaotically    unfolds    before    him,    the    cloud    of    his    imagined    performance    dissipates    into    nothingness.    now    he’d    have    to    start    all    over    again.   “    no.    ”    he    replies    curtly,    expression    blank    (    but    the    annoyance    is    clear    if    you    look    close    enough    ).    “    why    don’t    you    know    how    to    walk    ?    ”
