So, hey.

I haven't even looked at this in almost 6 years, but I thought I'd post a life update so I can look back again in another 5 or 6 years.

I had a baby.

Who knew if you don't unalive yourself in your early 20s you get to live to see great things in your 30s?

I’ve been thinking about deleting this Tumblr. I haven’t been using it regularly in forever, it might be coming up on a year now? I still log on every other day and browse but whenever I go to post I just can’t think of anything interesting to post.

Truth be told, I think this site was a great platform when I was a teenager/early 20’s struggling with a thousand different issues. I was depressed, suffering with sever PTSD and anxiety, a survivor of self-harming, rape and sexual assault. I was forced to move out of my family home due to failing out of my first year of University and had to move in with my boyfriend’s parents, abusing alcohol to boot. It was… really rough.

But now, for the first time in my life, I feel like I’m finally over all of that. I’ve been off my anti-depressants for over a year, I haven’t had a panic attack in a few years, my job forced my to confront my anxiety problems and I feel like I’m back at ‘regular person’ levels, I don’t drink at all anymore aside from the odd drink on a special occasion, my family have cut ties with the relatives who were dragging us down all that time, I married that wonderful, supportive boyfriend, we bought a house, graduated University and landed on our feet in well-paying jobs we both enjoy that we are GOOD at. Not to mention our little family of cats, and that I’m finally due to pass my driving test next month.

I don’t know what the point of this post is, but I’m just so grateful for where I ended up and I feel like this site served it’s purpose while I needed it. I’ll probably keep my page active but will continue to rarely/never update. I will say that I made some really lovely friends through this site and I know I’ve fallen out of contact with most of them. If anyone wants to add me on Facebook or exchange numbers or keep in touch in any other way, I’m down for that. Shoot me a message?

So yeah, I guess I just wanted to make one final big life update thing. And also show off how long my hair is now!

The point where I became certain that TLJ had more respect for Kylo than for Finn was when we were shown how their wounds from the end of the last movie were treated.

We see the stages Kylo goes through to heal his, from freshly-bruised-up-&-bandaged to a team of droids meticulously stitching his cheek back together with synthetic skin. Rian Johnson himself even went out of his way to have Kylo Ren’s scar redesigned from the last movie, because, as he said, “it looked goofy.” With so much time and effort put into a single scratch on the face, that must mean Finn getting stabbed in the shoulder and nearly having his spine severed by Kylo Ren’s lightsaber will be talked about and dealt with in great detail!

Nope.

Neither of Finn’s wounds, which were so severe they put him into a *coma*, I’d like to remind you, are ever mentioned or seen. Meanwhile, we get about six scenes centered on Kylo’s lil boo-boo.

“But Pop, he was in that bacta suit thingy! Obviously the Resistance had better healing technology! Don’t be so nitpicky.”

Mhm. Yes. The struggling, underfunded, undermanned Resistance has better healthcare than the evil superpower run by all the richest people from the former evil superpower. OKAY! SURE!

They don’t mention Finn’s wounds once. Not once. Even if you think TLJ is the greatest Star Wars movie to date, think about that for a second. Think if they had just glossed over Luke having a metal hand, or skipped straight to Han being right as rain the moment he was pulled out of carbonite he’d been stuck in for years. How cheated would you have felt? How many great scenes would have been lost?

Just think about it.

Hi, this is an excellent post and I just wanted to add one thing that has been bugging me. IMO, the heart of the matter is this:

This is NOT how Star Wars treats its heroes.

You’ve already mentioned Luke’s hand and Han getting frozen in carbonite, but imo even more similar situation is when Luke gets attacked by a wampa at the beginning of ESB. Now, a wampa is no Kylo Ren. It looks like a weird cross between a goat and an orangutan and Luke doesn’t have to duel it to escape. But he does get hurt and then almost freezes to death and must spend a lot of time in bacta. What translates the severity of the in-universe situation to the audience is Han and Leia’s reaction. They are clearly worried, they are there when he wakes up and even though Han and Luke banter, the humour is heartfelt and no one makes jokes about how he looked in the bacta tank.

Now compare that to what happens to Finn. His injuries are so serious he requires some sort of special suit, yet no one (except Rey, who’s light years away) is all that worried. Sure Poe looks concerned when he sees him, but this is after Finn wakes up from a coma, alone, and the entire scene is played for laughs, complete with him banging his head and falling to the floor. Think about that - Finn is supposed to be our hero, yet the film tells us that all his experience at Starkiller amounts to is a bout of physical comedy. And before he gets to Poe, he’s apparently allowed to wander out of the infarmary, without anyone noticing? If he’s ‘the Finn’ to the Resistance members, why do they not care when he clearly needs help? Even Poe’s sympathy is undermined by BB-8′s ‘joke’. No, BB-8 doesn’t make a joke, he’s just trying to describe things, yet this is clearly supposed to make the audience laugh at Finn’s expense, once again undermining the severity of his inujuries and glossing over his experience at Starkiller.

This is of course horrible all on its own, but when you also consider the lengths RJ is trying to go to make us ‘sympathize’ with a man who got injured after killing his father and attemting to kill two others, it’s pretty damning.

THIS! One of the many slaps in our face was definitely showing a disoriented Finn oozing liquid from every pore of that suit in the middle of the ship’s corridor, while crew members were ignoring him. Such a cheap, misplaced joke, such a spectacularly bad writing.

why are there all these posts n articles n stuff that are like “girls can have short hair!” “girls can wear suits!” but all the women shown are still always only feminine, and whats actually being said is “girls can have short hair and still be feminine!” and “girls can wear suits and still be attractive to men!” like whenever women want to do something men (and sometimes other women too, but men are awful at this) have to find a way to make it Still Okay, Still Acceptable to them, instead of just letting women be! women dont need to fit any standards of femininity or beauty to do something, and they certainly don’t need mens approval

A few things:

It finally snowed in our town this week. It hasn’t snowed before Christmas or even enough to lie since I was a child so it has made me super giddy. It was my staff Christmas party yesterday, Izaak and I got to drive from Newcastle to Cambridge with my boss and they promptly fell asleep and abandoned me as soon as we hit the road. We got dressed up and met 20 of my co-workers for the first time ever, but everyone was so lovely and I got a huge Lush gift set as a present from the company. Today we are going into London for the weekend to shop, hit up Winter Wonderland and see some friends.
