;For rukia's bday I will post a wishlist of things I would love to write this year :>
I don’t know what I want to do with it, but pocket sized!Rukia from the initial bleach pilot has at least some entertainment value.
Hanging out with other female characters and or doing more activities?(hot springs, shopping, SWA things etc?) Her last kind of female figure in her life (other than Orihime) was Miyako. I don’t think she doesn’t indulge in these activities cause she doesn’t like them but because she’s a bit missing on the crowd to do so and defaults to work and nobility obligations.
gay gay homosexual gay(read: cute gay fluff). I'm picky on ships, but this year more than any, me and the world both need it.
Rukia on her journey to become captain and filling these blank areas out
Training(your muse or mine, don't matter), I like the idea of her helping others, and it suits her well as a lead officer, or her being trained by others possibly fits above bullet too. Doesn't have to be physical/muscle training either, could be lessons like in being a command officer and what not.
I also really like the idea of Rukia freezing an arena and learning to skate and slide around to maintain speed while still using her freezing self ability and throwing an enemy off– but that’s like… likely post TYBW, but would be an interesting thread? Or at least ice skating and inspiring it would be very cute for a thread.
spirit verse AU
Found family is the life blood of me :> GIVE! I'd love to dig into the details of existing/canon bonds them, or make new ones. Angst, bonding, cute things. Vague, but it's one of my favorite things and already exist in most of rukia's canon bonds.
Post war(winter/karakura, or TYBW pick your poison) aftermath feelings
@reservedcloud asked:
In order not to offend the sensibilities of the elder Kuchiki sibling, a little package with an accompanying notelet would have been sent to the offices of the Thirteenth Division on 14th January. Within the unassuming small but neatly wrapped package, the recipient would find a homemade crocheted rabbit-shaped keychain that is evidently an attempt at recreating a facsimile of Chappy but not quite succeeding. The message on the folded card simply reads: My dear Rukia, Happy birthday. Apologies for this poor substitute for the real Chappy. It is hoped that you will find some use for this. With my best, Isane.
Upon arriving at her office that morning, Rukia's eyes would spot the unsuspecting small package. Undoing the delicate wrapping, her eyes would fall upon adorable rabbits crocheted in yarn, gasping at just the sight of them and squeeing in delight at just the touch of their soft 'fur'. Bringing the small keychains to touch her cheek, she finally takes a peek at the attached note, making a mental note that she would need to swing by the fourth and send her regards at one point or another for her new tiny wooly gifts.
;new year, new starter call?
Rin was lamenting at the fact that she transferred to the Kidō Corps at such “impeccable” timing to witness and participate in one of the Seireitei’s most poignant occasions.
And that had to be her close friend’s execution.
Perhaps if she was still stationed at the Nest of Maggots, she could play the ignorance is bliss card. But alas, that was not the case. When she initially caught wind of the announcement, she could reminisce herself dropping the paperwork she was carrying, accompanying the scattered sheets as she collapsed and kneeled haplessly on the ground. How did something immensely unfortunate happen within the span of a few weeks? “Did you know? She donated her Shinigami powers to help a mere mortal. A member of the esteemed Kuchiki clan did that…” Rin heard soon after. As much as she wanted to chastise her for her impulsive actions, she was unable to. Despite the negative connotations of her intentions, there was always a semblance in which it was for the greater good. It was what made Rukia, Rukia.
Everything changed, however. The orange-haired boy wearing Shinigami garb managed to rescue Rukia from her demise. Captain Aizen’s betrayal alongside two other captains. Such shocking revelations were too much to process for Rin. After the entire ordeal, she returned to the Kidō Corps’ building. She was more than relieved that Rukia was safe; nonetheless, they had a bigger predicament given the treachery of the three (former) captains.
Rin needed some air. She approached the Kidō Corps’ entrance, no longer wearing her all-white attire. Upon stepping out of the large doors, a thwack sound resonated from her shoulder alongside a slight sting. She noticed a bokken familiar from her days at the academy on the ground. Rubbing her shoulder for relief, she frowned and retorted a brief “Hey!” before her gaze widened in astonishment. “R…Rukia?” she stammered. The sight of her, although more frail than usual, felt a little too surreal. Rukia scruffling her hair did little to comfort her, despite her current state - alive, rather than her intended fate.
"I was thinking-- What do you say to a taiyaki outing?"
Rin frowned. “You were about to be engulfed by the flames of the Sōkyoku and your primary focus is…taiyaki,” her voice wavered. She gulped and heaved a sigh, briefly shutting her eyes before opening them. “Very well, I will keep you company," she stated.
Rukia glances right over any mention of her execution, unfazed, as if the events from the past week, which nearly lead to her untimely death hadn't even occurred. "You look awful. Your head is really up in the clouds, huh? Well, not that I blame you." Judging from Rin's poor reaction, Rukia frowns in concern; clearly the whole incident must still be consuming her. "I would have thought that after all these years after making it to the kido corps that your reflexes would have improved! Where is that woman who could swallow her feelings and was ready to do her job properly a few days ago?" She tries to lighten the atmosphere with her usual brashness, while still fearlessly poking for a reaction.
She begins walking to their destination, but turn around to still face Rin, casually walking backwards, and keeping eye contact while remaining casual with her hands behind her back. "I was planning to head there anyway. But you look like you could use a pick me up. You still like red bean paste, right? "
;new year, new starter call?
@ketsumyo from here
Upon arriving, Rukia didn't even notice her posture lose it's rigidity, relieved to see that her destination was a place cozy and secluded. As she wade her way through the entrance, her size made it easier to duck under obstacles rather than hop over them in the small shop. Having spotted Tsubaki, Rukia's face loses a touch of the off putting expression she wore naturally for something of playfully obligated.
As she takes her seat, she sits in seiza, but only for a moment before it dissolves into something more looser, with her legs out comfortable in front of her as she heats up into more casual conversation. "I'm not such a poor comrade that I would leave you to fend for yourself." Just to prove herself, Rukia grabs at the bottle, and pours herself a double, taking such words as a slight challenge.
For a moment, she inspects the woman across from her. "Do you come to this place often? You have the energy of a regular." It was one of the auras that used to be a red flag during her thieving days; it tended to belong to the kind of folks that have loyal people who would look after them, or would have some backup on their heels. Rukia wouldn't say that outloud however, and only would take a larger sip to slip that thought from her mind. But her face would flinch from a lack of knowledge, shaking her head, unprepared for what flavor would be hitting her senses, having not even asked what was the drink of choice she had opted into was. "What is this?"
❛ you look like you've got something to say. ❜ - @glacialdeath
Eri may not have been one to freely speak her mind often, but that had never kept the emotions from sitting plainly upon her face. It wasn't as though the news were bad, much the opposite; it was simply a matter of timing. How soon was too soon? Byakuya had left it up to her discretion on when to share, and with whom. Rukia was an obvious choice to tell, it would impact her life far more than any others but should she wait till the three of them were together?
It was still delicate, as she wasn't very far along but if she were to be honest, it sounded relieving to tell someone. Eri knew Rukia would leave it alone if she insisted, but it was proving a difficult secret to keep.
"Byakuya and I are expecting our first child."
Curiosity had bitten her, raising an intrigued brow towards Eri. She had half expected to be waved off, but what she received was something that fully caught her off guard.
"A child?!"
Cupping her hand over her own mouth, Rukia quickly tries to quiet her voice, realizing the volume. The idea of children, in her vicinity, let alone her family was brand new and many thoughts crossed her mind. But seeing Eri's bright smile on the matter on delivering the news, Rukia reflecting a similar smile in turn and took any incoming worries and brought it back to the heart of the matter.
"Well, I'm sure that you and my brother will be great parents. Are you excited? Have you already put in your leave? ...Have you already picked out the room?"
❝ It may not be the accepted practice, but when has the opinions of others dictated my actions? ❞ Not to mention Rukia's promotion had been delayed several times at his request. There was a reason she was unseated for so long, but he keeps that to himself.
He quietly observed her expression and the quick retraction of a question that was altogether absurd. Byakuya never once doubted his position as a captain. However, there was a time where he did doubt his actions. The only time he ever doubted himself was Rukia's execution, but he already admitted his thoughts to her when he was injured.
However, to leave this unanswered would be reverting back to a time where he never looked at her let alone spoke to her and they made such good progress that he was unwilling to let her insecurities fade to nothingness.
❝ Is the memory of Kaien still haunting you? Or has another lieutenant said something to you? I suspect it to be the former. Do you not think it is about time you absolved yourself of this guilt? I have heard the Shiba clan has already forgiven you. It is time you forgive yourself. ❞
"You may be right, I know no one would be able to stop you." Having witnessed that particular trait firsthand many times, there is a sense of admiration in her tone. But there is still the matter of her own pride on the matter; Rukia tries to reach out to one of Byakuya's, and gently, as if his hand was made of porcelain, clasp his hand between her own. With a light pull towards herself, as if kindly asking to be given something, she asks, looking him unwaveringly in the eye with determination. "Then, as the lieutenant of the thirteenth, and your sister, I ask you to simply leave it in my hands, okay? I will make the Kuchiki family proud, trust me."
Rukia forgets how direct he can be sometimes, quickly being caught off guard, spooked, dodging his gaze as she replies softly, trying to regain her mental footing. "I would be lying if I could say he hasn't been on my mind." Just the name in her ears was surreal, sending a shiver down her spine, like a ghost touching her shoulder. But amongst her fight with the ninth espada, it felt like she cleansed her memory of Kaien when she drew a blade through that monster's head. And, before she had accepted the rank of lieutenant she had vowed to herself that she wouldn't allow herself to be lieutenant until she could be readily able to confront and discuss that man without issue. Taking in a breath, and placing a hand upon her chest, just above the scar from the 9th espada which felt like it was pulsing at the reminder, Rukia drew in strength and composure before continuing. "But Kaien's death isn't why he's in my thoughts." His name rolls off her tongue naturally, her stone composure returned, a piece of proof to her brother and herself that his name is a matter that no longer causes her pause, or at least not nearly as much as it once did.
There's a moment of pause, as her eyes search his, wondering if she should fully divulge out her active worries, or if this was the proper outlet for them. But as words from Renji about sharing her burdens echo in her head, Rukia shakes her head, conceding against her usual habit. "It started when I was cleaning the lieutenant's office the other day. Some old dusty notebook of Kaien's fell open and a few photos scattered. They didn't have anything private on them or anything-- just normal squadmates amongst peers, butting arms, sharing drinks."
When it comes to the rest, the emotional part of the matter, her words are more elusive. Her face seems pained, as if experiencing a cough she cannot release, but she trucks on anyways. "I can't help but think everyone just sees someone trying to replace him. And I don't want to step on their memories. Or even the memories I have with him." Rukia seems to hit a wall of pause, and to get over the verbal hill, she starts elsewhere, her gaze wandering downwards to the floor. "I'm sure that you've had some understanding in why Kaien's position has been unfulfilled for many years. The light he cast was so wide and he played an important role to everyone. He was never a man that could be replaced easily. And no one wanted to either." Releasing a sigh as she brings in her hands close to herself, being honest, but shriveling and becoming small in her stature. "I'm still trying to convince a part of myself that the person who should take over after him should be me. In a way, holding myself up to his shadow, I feel just like when I first started as a shinigami."

@hirakotual asked:
17. the star : what does your muse take inner comfort in knowing ? what guides your muse ?
;Maybe it has to do with rukia being a warrior, and survivor, but Kaien's words on the heart and leaving it with others(as corny as they are) are something that Rukia finds a great comfort in. I don't think she fully understood them or connected with it until much later, more closer to when she has created some of those connections herself. The idea of being able to leave a part of yourself with others also pairs well with her development through the series.
She used to be a lone wolf, but eventually has these people which she feels very backed by that she can leave it up to. I think particularly what she connects to it is in leaving a mark. Having some kind of legacy or inheritance in connections with others sits well with her and brings her great comfort.
Inuzuri is a place where no one leaves a mark, and souls disappear just as easily as they show up. But eventually, throughout the timeline she builds up these great connections, both strong and small between others where she very much feels like she's been able to leave a mark of herself with others, or leave her heart there so to say.
It connects well in her having a kid, as that's another form of legacy. And it also connects in why she likes looking out for others too, does well in a leadership role, and uses looking out for others often as a way to connect.
Particularly about the idea she takes comfort in is the idea that things would be handled should her own demise come to pass, and that even in death she would leave mark on the people that matter to her, however grim that seems. It's something that brings peace to her soul. It also helps bring peace to her mind when faced with loss of someone, that she can feel like she carries a piece of them forward still, and that they still have their legacy, although that doesn't stop it from being something she strives to prevent at all cost.
Won't do much detail here, but accepting her mortality also connects with her zanpakuto's true nature and living IN that line of life and death. It's how she sits well with dying, and being a fighter on the battlefield, Afterall, her own dying isn't something she's afraid of as we've seen with As Nodt: Her fears are much more related to the people's she's bonded with than to do with her own being.

Outside of the building of the kidō corps, Rukia waited patiently, clad in a fine simple kimono adorned with bright purple hydrangeas: outside of her prison attire but yet to be back in her shinigami attire. With a bokken resting on both of her knees, she closed her eyes, breathing in while sitting in seiza. At some point, either in her want to avoid attention or just pure impulse, she had made her way atop one of the stone walls just outside of the entrance. It had proved to make the comfort in her seat far less, but at least had given her some discreteness and a pleasant wind blowing by her ears that felt missing down below.
It's the quiet sound of the door opening among her silent mediation that causes her to peek an eye open. Upon spotting the 'prey' that she had been waiting for, Rukia grabs the bokken in her lap and sends it towards Rin like a dart, aiming with poor form at Rin's shoulder with a light toss. "Hey!" It was a simple gesture to get Rin's attention, while also testing how much has changed and her reflexes since they were students. But it also would be lying if Rukia wasn't also getting a bit of that frustration from her powers still remaining dormant in that action. Carefully, step by step, Rukia would make her way to the eave of the roof before gracefully dropping to the level concrete ground, patting herself of any dirt.
"-- Or something like that." There really wasn't a clear rulebook on conversations after your once friend was just about to witness you be executed: some awkwardness was probably a given. Casually, Rukia shook out her wrist, her body still frail, thin and out of practice from her time in captivity.
Rukia releases a sigh, as clearly the chuck of her training sword was not enough to fully get out all of her frustrations. "You have no idea what a pain it is to track down people without the ability to fully detect spiritual pressure after you're used to it. But I figured I'd be able to catch you sooner or later." Slowly, Rukia raises her hand, placing it upon Rin's head and scruffling , clearly happy to see the other and be in contact once more under much better circumstances now clearly. "I was relieved to see that it looks like you've been making it just fine."

@ketsumyo asked:
1. How does your muse relax?
;Rukia has a couple of ways of relaxing. One is spontaneous "adventures" with friends, which she usually drags them into. Oddly enough I think this grew from her coping mechanism of distractions and her tendency to run away from her problems, but has grown into a good healthy relaxation method. Rukia isn't always a good friend to herself mentally, but she can be better to herself in proximity by convincing herself she's helping her friends. And being among friends lets her be able to get lot more into and actually achieve the distraction she's looking for and genuinely have fun and have real emotions on those kind of outings. Usually these involve taking something she's had a vague interest in learning more about and fulfilling her curiosity about it while finding someone to experience it with that she's comfortable with.
I think I have this somewhere in some other headcanon elsewhere, where she likes to implement 'unique' training exercises with her squad after promotion to lieutenant. Examples could be things like three legged races, field days, tag, and other more spontaneous decided challenges. Bringing those ideas to her squadron is very similar as the above spontaneous adventures, just bringing the adventure home instead and in more of her own spirit, but there exist a similar satisfaction and distraction relaxation part in this form as well.
Somewhat similar, retreats into nature are also very relaxing to her(she is that weirdo that can enjoy camping), whether that's things like stargazing, dashing through the grassfields, daydreaming in trees, or splashing in a river.
But, of course, her probably easiest and longest having form of relaxation is drawing in her sketchbook.
@hollownekomata asked:
//hello! from the TIDBITS HEADCANON PROMPT - What is your muse’s opinion on gossip? Do they ever gossip, encourage it, discourage it? :>
;Rukia is highly ignorant of gossip, and tends to view it pretty negatively. Ever since the academy it's been something that's directed at her due to her background, and used to tear her down. It didn't help that a new larger wave of it occurred again when her class changed from her adoption. She usually feels like people are talking about things they don't understand and it's been something that's made her feel isolated and created distance between herself and others. Ignoring it completely and turning oblivious has become her protective shell towards it after putting up with it for a long time, picked up sometime around the time of her tutelage under Kaien.
She isn't a willing participant in it typically, but there might be a level she's forced into at noble parties and what not. In noble circles, she finds it very boring, usually people talking about people they don't know. In those scenarios she pretends to listen, saving face by reacting very little, and shows a lack of interest. If it's present in places that are more personal, like at her squad where she has a bit more authority and power, she might try to cut it off, usually depending on her annoyance of it has reached its threshold or if she thinks of it as harmful. But she's fully aware that it's impossible to have a no tolerance policy for it and it will always exist.
She's pretty good at shrugging it off when it comes to herself, but gossip against others she might be a bit more protective of or choose to do something about. For the most part, she tries to keep it out of her life. She may tend to be out of the loop for that same reason though.
