Glass discovers new beginnings at Paris Fashion Week.
SS17 in Paris will go down in fashion history as four of high fashion’s biggest brand names take on new creative directors, with one in particular losing out on one of their own to a rival house. In the industry this signifies a crucial opportunity for regeneration or bust, dependent on how the new design heads approach the responsibility hanging over them.
From clockwise.
VALENTINO, since 2008 the result of a design duo acclaimed for stylish synergy, is now a one-man show. Pier Paulo Piccioli is that man - the sole creative director whose partner in cloth since roundabout the millennium has found her self at the helm of rival fashion house, Dior. This puts both of the designers, who parted ways amicably, in positions of great importance in the industry.
Alone in his atelier for the first time since taking the reigns with his co-pilot in 2008, Piccioli didn’t lose his - or the brand’s - way, producing gowns with gravitas in grandeur for the darling buds of the jet-set.
DIOR. With a clear idea of what her Dior should be, Maria Grazia Chiuri - now flying solo for the first time ever in her directive design career after being partnered with Pier Paulo Piccioli during her 17 years at Valentino - delivered a Dior never seen before.
The first woman to ever take on the position in the brand’s 70 year history, the influence of a woman as creative commander-in-chief was galvanising - shifting the brand identity towards a deeper connection of what women want. Or, to be exact, what Chiuri thinks women should want. So by default, what she wants.
SAINT LAURENT’s newly appointed creative director, Anthony Vaccarello, was a rebel with a cause greater than that of his predecessor, Hedi Slimane.
When Hedi joined back in 2012, YSL desperately needed the youth-quaking creative pulse he nonchalantly drummed up through daring designs initially rebuked for being too grunge. That old black magic called grunge saw the brand report a revenue of 973.6 million Euros against 707.3m Euros the previous year by the time Hedi was rumoured to be bowing out last year. Now, on the heels of Hedi’s departure, comes Vaccarello’s turn to get put through his paces at an exhausting rate in the hope of making his mark, and a pretty penny for Kering in the long run.
He created dresses with a freewheeling sex appeal and credible confidence. The kind that would have Lou Lou de Falaise living, again.
LANVIN now has their first chéri bright spark since Jeanne Lanvin herself joined the Syndicat de la Couture in 1909, in the form of French designer Bouchra Jarrar.
Showing a sensitivity those before her seemed to lack resulted in beautifully conceived garments with a French predilection for sensual decadence in dress that appeared as Lanvin as ever. Jeanne would approve.

The iPhone 7 has been a transient topic of conversation in the Glass offices since being made available for purchase just under a month ago.
Ratifying the tech talk that has infiltrated our team, ordinarily more concerned with matters of style and passing fashion trends, Glass discovers the facts behind Apple’s latest device.
Whereas once upon a time your iPhone was a goner as soon as being immersed water, with the new 7 you can prepare your bubbly bath, light up some scented candles and relax while you drown your phone into water and listen to your favourite playlist from the improved powerful speakers. Although, if you want to listen to music with your classic Apple headphones, you’ll have to rely on a Lightning Converter which comes along with the phone (and in case you were wondering, drilling a hole into your new handset will NOT reveal a hidden headphones port, as the urban myth currently doing the rounds propagates). Besides, if you aren’t a messy person, you could use the new super-easy-to-lose wireless Airpods. Additionally, you won’t have to worry about your Iphone turning off on a night out whilst you are taking the perfect selfie with the amazing 7 mega pixel front camera, as the battery life is incredibly long lasting. Moreover, you are less likely to get annoyed by the “cannot take picture - storage is full” notification, as the new Apple creation’s storage ranges from 32GB to 256GB.
There are two new colours available: matte black, called Black, and shiny black, Jet Black. The often-out-of-stock Jet Black has been the most popular shade so far in the Glass office and elsewhere, but be careful as it is prone to micro abrasions and it attracts fingerprints faster than a season of NCIS.
Lastly, there is a new ‘taptic' engine that provides haptic feedback, so it isn’t you tapping the screen, it’s now the screen that taps you! At the end of the day the new iPhone 7 has only been out for 2 weeks, so it is difficult to determine if it is a success or not. We shall see.

Santin, Santini or Santtini? Confused by all the I’s and T’s? Well we were too, but despite the changing nomenclature between her ranges and restaurants, they all point towards the iconic chef, Laura Santtini.
The Santin family opened their restaurant Santini (extra I included) in 1984 and, it’s the bread and butter to Laura Santtini’s considerable cooking talents; linking flavors and feelings - transforming her books, products, recipes and writing into works of art.
In 2009, Laura launched her flavors collection of sauces and condiments, (Taste #5 Umami Collection), whilst adding the extra ‘T’ to her name to become Laura Santtini. #imeanwhynot…? According to Laura it makes “non-cooks good, good cooks great, and great cooks extraordinary.” But don’t fear if you burnt the chicken, use the ‘Laura PANIC button’ on her website for immediate advice for kitchen emergencies.
The family restaurant is still open in Belgravia so why not stop in today to discover the true taste of home-cooked Italian food. As Laura says,“grab life and lick it, the magic is on the tip of your tongue!” #goodfoodgoodmood
Glass discovers high expectations for Paris Fashion Week.
As Milan has come to an end and Paris is finally commencing, Glass awaits what’s next. There are very high expectations for the new collection of Anthony Vaccarello at Yves Saint Laurent, who has just replaced Hedi Slimane. Moreover, all eyes are on Bouchra Jarrar, who will display her new collection for Lanvin, having to fill Alber Elbaz’s shoes. Furthermore, the powerful duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli has split, leaving everyone wondering what Ms Chiuri’s Dior will look like and what Pierpaolo Piccioli’s going to present for his first solo collection at Valentino.

Our daily toils demand we exert more and more of ourselves from the crack of dawn. Now that we are living in an era where we sleep with our work (literally, when was the last time you slept soundly sans iPhone?) we have to take more care of ourselves to function with a modicum of cognitive sanity. This can start from the inside out providing the day is started as you mean for it to go on well. Your mother really wasn’t kidding when she said breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Sharing her designs for waking up well is Qnola founder Daniella Copperman, teaming up with Sanderson to launch the Wake Up Well breakfast menu, a morn-time respite in a quinoa-based brekkie recipe.
Running through the remainder of September in honour of the various hardships the fashion week season puts on the fashion pack, yes - woe is us, Coppeman has created four exclusive flavoursome and healthy dishes as part of the menu, combining the Earth’s natural, living and life giving seasonal provisions.
The energy packed dishes, including Sunshine Salad (a vitamin C packed punch of passion fruit, mango, orange and so on) and Hijiki Poke Bowl (uber nutririous Hijiki seaweed and trusty avocado and cucumber on the side) give diners Copperman’s valuable insight as model / entrepreneur, and previous student of nutrition and biology, who seeks alternative methods to stay in shape. Paying close attention on what to eat being absolutely the first step.
The facts are all there and the proof is in the protein so we are in.

Yacht. A word associated with warmth, cocktails and of course, crystal clear waters. But did you ever think a yacht could cruise around a desert? No? Think again … EYOS Expeditions are offering the ultimate Antarctic and Arctic adventures with the new super yacht LEGEND.
Complete with a Balinese spa and a range of toys, from paddle boards to jet-skies, this is a once in a lifetime experience. (They even have Snow Scooters!!!)
However, if you want to push the BOAT out a little further, why not soar though the sky in the yachts private helicopter, or sink to 300 meters below Antarctic surface, in its very own submarine? I mean, whats stopping you?
But what’s that you say? The Antarctic is not a desert!? Well … because it experiences such little rain, Antarctica is actually considered a desert #whowouldhavethought.

With London Fashion Week reaching it’s climax today after a five day slug Glass discovers the people who make it happen, left out of the limelight.
From the shouting photogs resigned to the pit at the end of the runway, the ingénue nervously clutching a guestlist whilst higher-ranking PR people frantically flit about or the dashing bartender keeping the fashion pack merry till midnight comes. We salute you.
They don’t revel in the attention, instead, getting on with their job to allow others to stake their claim on some form of glory. That, at the end of the week, makes it the industry it is.

Glass discovers the trends and tastes we’ve been tempted by over the weekend at London Fashion Week.
Currently lingering on in fashionable hotspots across the UK’s capital, London Fashion Week is a clothing trade show held twice a year in February and September and organised by the British Fashion Council. Regarded as one of the "Big Four" fashion weeks, along with the New York, Milan and Paris equivalents suffice to say, it’s reputation proceeds what it offers up each season.
For SS17 Glass appreciates designers desiging with tact. Above, clockwise, clarity in structure from Edeline Lee, fluid ebullience from Judy Wu, elegant linear form at Fashion Scout newcomer, and one to watch, Anissa Aida and assured manipulation of fabric and cut, as ever, at Eudon Choi.

These Parisians got us cringing with envy (what is it with this out-of-bed hair technique that only girls of the French capital seem to master?!) and with disdain (Or their metropolis trend of not giving tourists proper directions?!) But. Now is the time for some French tolerance.
Founded by interiors guru Georgia Metcalfe in 2006, The French Bedroom Company is a melting-pot of the very best interior designers working their magic with a strong French aesthetic and a subtil contemporary edge and we felt that this Fight Me Antler Chandelier (see picture aside) sums up the company’s spirit perfectly:
Genuine (these are made of real antler’s wood) , unique (the chandelier line is very limited and therefore very much imitated), and highly atmospheric (just think about how much grandeur this will give your living room).
Your house upgrade is only a click away. The only risk you might be taking is making your friends dead jealous but you’ll still have the best home so that’s not too much of a faux pas #wereckon
People. As Fashion Week is currently crossing the Atlantic and just about to grace the London Streets, we thought we’d put you in the know. Emerging London based label SARAHANDSORRENTINO is on a mission: roaring up women’s wardrobes through bold jungly prints and art-deco lines.
And the woman behind the print focused label knows her business: Half Brit, half Indian, Sarah Pasricha draws inspiration from a colourful heritage and expertise from her experience as a textile artist in the film industry.
As such SS17 at SARAHANDSORRENTINO promises to be intrepid, fearless, savage. So what’s to expect? A strong colour palette - sharp orange, bright blue, piercing yellow and dark pink – which are brought together on Sarah’s audacious cuts - in fabrics of Viscose jersey, Cotton poplin or Silk Crepe de Chine.
