Out of a moment of aching sadness and fury and manic impulsivity, a wizard turns a killer whale trapped in a theme park aquarium into a human so she can smuggle it out of the park and back into the wild.
She is now stuck on a road trip to the coast with a 6’6 woman who has tried to kill and devour a moose.
american leftists seem extremely focused on anti imperialism (good) but rarely- if at all- discuss decolonization in their own fucking country, despite acknowledging that it is a settler colonial state.
im serious about this though. as an urban indian, i definitely cant speak on this as much as a rez indian could. but i know from talking to rez friends i have and from what the american indian movement has screamed for over the years that we need land we can grow on, we need clean water, we need to allow the wildlife that once lived in this land to live here again (meaning you need to listen to us before building those high speed rails you all get so hard over).
you cant drool over the zapatistas while ignoring people in your own country who have a similar goal
silly me I never provided things to read on the topic of decolonization! I'd personally suggest the following as "beginner level" essential reading to understand decolonization:
Discourse on Colonialism (Aimé Césaire) - this is more a focus on colonization, but I feel it's a necessary read in my opinion as in order to understand decolonization I believe it's important to first understand colonization.
Wretched of the Earth (Franz Fanon)
Decolonization is Not a Metaphor (Tuck, Yang)
also an "easy to process" read, to understand landback specifically here in Turtle Island, I'd suggest reading The Red Deal (there is a pdf, I don't mean the article with the same title)
Discourse on Colonialism (PDF, ebook, mobi)
The Wretched of the Earth (PDF, ebook)
Decolonization is Not a Metaphor (PDF)
The Red Deal (PDFs of Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)
Bisan today
[My best attempt at a transcript, apologies for anything I got wrong/misunderstood.]
Hey. It's Bisan. It's been 517 days since Israel started its barbaric genocide against the Palestinian people, and almost 70 days since Israel decided to prevent any food, or aid, or any products from entering Gaza. All shops are empty. Supermarkets are empty. There is no food. There's no food. People already started to die because of hunger. We are losing people with disabilities, elderlies, and children on a daily basis now— the weakest people. With (couldn't catch) of nutrition, even of the adults. Because we are not eating enough. Even me. I used to eat twice with access to food all day. Now I eat once. There is no food. People on the streets, my people, are walking without being able to recognize what is around them. They're tired, they're walking like blind people. They're walking while they're not able to see each other, to figure out what is happening around. Our bodies cannot hold this anymore. We're so tired. Israel is weaponizing the hunger. The ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross), the WFB (World Food Bank), the UNWRA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), all the I-NGOs you know and do not know that are working on Gaza Strip now have been warning the entire world of forced starvation and that Israel is illegally weaponizing the hunger and using the aid to put more pressure on the Palestinian people to achieve other political goals, like emptying Gaza Strip. Like pushing all Gazans to flee Gaza Strip. Where? They are still deciding where. I'll figure it out. When? While we are dying because of hunger. While the entire world, while we are in 2025, and the entire world is suffering of overconsumption and overproductivity. Not the opposite. There is plenty food. Everything outside, in the normal world, and we're just dying because there is not enough flour. Bread. It's basics. And soon we will not have water. Do you know why? Because Israel is also preventing the fuel. There's no fuel. There's no fuel. (Tayyib?) We are cooking on fire. We're walking— no more using vehicles. But what about extracting water, the desalination plans, etc, how? By which energy? There's no fuel. Soon there's no water. There's no food. We're losing people every day. And no one in this entire dirty planet is doing anything. No one. Everyone is talking about Israel's right to defend itself against Yemenis, against Syrians, against Lebanese, against Palestinians in West Bank, (Al-Ghaziyah?), everywhere— what is this?! Haram. Haram. Haram. This is haram. My people need dignity and dignity means food. Sufficient food. Sufficient water. And then a ceasefire. Israel is weaponizing hunger— and this happened only in the darkest eras of our humanity, which is the second World War.
And another thing. Israel is not only fighting the empty stomachs of Palestinians, Israel is also fighting other families and besieged people in West Bank too. So it's not only the empty stomachs of Gazans, its also the empty stomachs of the people in West Bank because today, just today, the last family in Tulkarm Refugee Camp after 91 days without food, electricity, or water, fled the camp. Israel has been besieging them. That family— small family, a mother, an elderly, and her daughter— her daughter was sneaking to find her some food and water for the 92 days. But now they were the last family in Tulkarm Refugee Camp. Israel is literally in front of you using only hunger to kill the Palestinians, to annihilate the Palestinian people, and the Palestinian cause, and to steal their lands in the West Bank, (Al-Ghaziyah?), in Gaza Strip, in the last Palestinian lands— in district Palestine and no one is doing anything.
Hunger. This is Israel's dirtiest weapon. Hunger, yes? It is bombing our children, mothers, and elderlies, on the tents, yes. It's testing new weapons on us, yes. It's evacuating large areas and taking over them yes. It's blocking and closing areas like Rafah, yes. It keeps threatening us to flee us from Gaza, yes, but still hunger is the dirtiest weapon. Israel knows this, and keeps doing this. And you know this, and keep watching this. My people is dying. And if I had anything to do to prevent this or change anything I would do it without making a video, without asking you for anything, because I know this entire world is helpless and weak, but I can't do anything. I'm besieged. I will face this starvation, as my people, soon.
as a huge lover of birds, 90% of the concern against wind turbines being used for energy is literally just pro fossil fuel propaganda. birds ARE at a risk however there is a lot of strategies even as simple as painting one of the blades that reduces a lot of accidental deaths. additionally renewable energy sources will do more in favor of the environment that would positively impact birds (and all of us). one study found over one million bird deaths from wind turbines. while that is a shockingly high number and we should work to drastically shrink it, at least 1.3 billion birds die to outdoor cats on a yearly basis. it was never about caring about birds
my bad we turned your sees microscopic again.
video proof that every creature is dogs
I love deep diving vids cause at least some of these animals have never seen a human before and they all so gagged.

The Giant Mimr
Led by his zeolots Mimr goes around collecting the weak and beaten ones left behind on the battlefield to add them to his entourage. If someone is foolish enough to resist or attack him he’ll crush them mercilessly.
“The soldiers don’t fear the battle and the fight. They fear to be left behind. Lost in the endless fields of death until he arrives. They would rather embrace death than be found by him and his zealots.”

Cira Gonda, translated by Diogo Almeida, about the fire at Brazil’s National Museum.
I don’t think enough people really understand yet exactly how horrific this fire was. This was a loss to our world and species.
This is the kind of fire we think of thousands of years later as the deepest of tragedy. On the scale of the Library of Alexandria. It’s worse than that really. The Library of Alexandria kept copies of books in other locations so historically very little was lost in individual fires over the centuries.
This? We lost so goddamn much in one night.
If you want to help… if you have ANY vacation photos, videos, anything documenting the contents of the museum: You may in fact be the sole owner of a slice of humanity’s soul. Please send a copy to: https://twitter.com/Wikipedia/status/1037066123869483008 Or:

I dont wanna be that guy bc its awesome that lesbians love hozier but Nina Cried Power is pretty specifically abt civil rights especially in refference to the black civil rights movement like literally its in the title referring to Nina Simone and Frankly if this site wasnt so overrun by white gays making memes abt themselves theres no way that would be so overlooked lol
this is a perfect articulation of whats been bothering me about tumblrs response to this song
in Nina Cried Power, hozier worked very closely with mavis staples who is featured in the track. he said even before the song was anything, at its fetal stages he wanted her input and direction to make this song. he specifically sought out to make a soul/blues homage to black protest musicians who used their music for activism, and he says the names of several of these artists on the track, and describes the song as a “thank you note” to them
so while its totally valid to feel empowered by the song and relate it to your own oppression, yall ignoring that this song is made not only as a thank you note but also as a message of empowerment to keep fighting the good fight as it relates specifically to black people and the civil rights movement.
the message of the song is completely unavoidable as half the song lists people like nina simone, mavis staples, james brown, billie holiday and several more. like the song is VERY in your face about what it means and who its dedicated to, so to see white gays totally ignoring that and acting like this EP was made for us is very disheartening.
