Gemstone punched skin, coveted rhinestone eyes 

Collected colors live stained in her bathroom 

A glitter dripped waterfall, black eyeliner falls 

Sharp canine fangs, the slight curl of her lips 

Imperfectly smudged lipstick

Tears of glitter and reveries 

Her hair littered with the cosmos, tied with word sticks and stars 

Long scriptures of nails; each finger tells a story 

Rushed entrances, spilling supplies

Uneven leg warmers, lace on her thighs 

A reverie, that girl is

Brown hair cut and stained a multitude of colors 

Burnt, smoked papers. 

And hazed, evanescent memoirs 

She was a sweet friend, 

A studious student,

And a perfectly fine girl

A little off her rocker, but she made up for it in her kindness 

She enjoyed art, writing, and being herself 

A free spirit, she was

It’s a shame that she killed herself 

She still had so far to go 

So much more grief to be held within herself 

I’m glad she gave up

Hand in hand, 

Heart in heart 

We are one 

Shimmering, dancing summer waters reflect the solar rays of light 

Our eyes are aglow, 

Our hearts on fire 

The fire spreads to our softly sunkissed lips

The water’s our only hope 

I grasp your hand as I drag you with me through the chilled lagoon

But you let go

I laid stiff, tethered to the shards of rock and stone that make up the sand 

The sun engulfs you

It lit you aglow, the flames hugging your skin, stealing your kisses 

As the shore washed me up, I dragged you by your feet to the cool, crystal waters 

I let the water engulf us 

Your screams are muffled to all but me 

Don’t break the surface just to breathe 

I’ll drown with you, so drown with me 

We’ll die soon, but that’s okay 

You fill my lungs

I fill yours

Sonnets that belong to the birds of morning drift through a cracked window 

River reflections are aglow

Elderly tree’s salsa with the breeze

The sun cries for my awakening 

Seven in the morning, the uniform time in which I awaken each day 

Mirror’s line my bedroom walls 

Small mirrors and large mirrors

Carefully painted mirrors and mirrors lost of their detail 

All of my mirrors are different; unique 

That’s why I was surprised when my mirror’s painted me different each day 

Some days I’m a clay molded, carefully crafted, crystalline beauty 

Other days I’m a distressed, textured ball of flesh

You have to check from every precise angle

Every corner and curve 

Just to verify as to what the mirror’s have chosen for you to look like today 

But maybe the mirror’s that decorate my room aren’t to blame

Silk swirls and soft fleurs line her carved marble 

A sonnet laced with hopes cry from a finely crafted instrument 

Twirls of song drift away the more you approach her throne 

Shined and perfectly polished stone clashes against chiseled and sharp pumps 

Click, click, click 

Small blossoms drift down from a dancing tree

I dip my heel in her waters, kneeling over the groomed edge

She dances at standstill on her gilded pedestal 

I look up at the sky, and can’t help but feel her reverence amongst my soul

Crafted with diamonds, blessed with a song,

She spins and spins, singing her magic song 

Oh, fair lady, blessed are her stories 

So here I sit, bathing under her and the morning glory 

My diamond sacrifice drifts to the gently reflecting waters

I can’t help but wonder, are her fallacies of truth?

Pick a route, some right, some wrong 

A detest to your veracity, the volatility of your soul 

Blessed are thine who bear the weight of a halo 

A beautiful testament to your purity, it is 

The more halos you win, the more they weigh you down

Only those who shine gracefully enough get to see past her encrusted treasures
