To anyone who's ever felt insignificant
Today a girl from my class told me she thought about me while buying her red bag because she noticed I like to wear bright colors. I was honestly surprised, because the two of us are not really close.
It’s strange how you sometimes realize that you’ve had an impact on someone. Even when you’re a quiet and introverted person, and you go out of your way to stay that way sometimes, people can still notice you. People who are like you. People who are different. People in general.
It’s so strange. Often I feel that if I were to die soon I wouldn’t have left a mark, but that’s actually not true. We leave marks without being aware of it. There’s always something about us that other people remember, and that will remind them of us when we’re out of their sight. It can be such a small detail, but at the end of the day, it’s the little details that make you memorable to the people who get used to seeing you in their lives.
Maybe I’ll never write a bestseller. Maybe I’ll never get to be in a movie. Maybe I’ll never get to make a revolutionary discovery, or come up with an original creation of any kind. Maybe I won’t leave a mark for the entire world to remember.
But in the meantime, I know that at least one person will remember that I like to wear bright colors.
So, to anyone who’s ever felt insignificant or unnoticed or forgotten - you’re not. Don’t think that, when you leave, you only leave an empty space that will soon be filled behind you. Your absence is actually made of little details that people remember about you. Someone might keep in mind one of the quirks you have. Another person might recall how excited you got that one time at that particular event. Someone else might remember that fandom shirt you like to wear and thought nobody had noticed.
And at least one person will think about how much they love you.
You’ve already left your mark. You do it with every person you meet.
You belong to this world like everyone else. You’re part of a big tapestry that’s woven together into tight waves of string. If you leave, maybe the big picture won’t change a great deal, but the strings closest to you will be loosened - and you’ll leave a hole. It might be small, but it’ll be there. You’ll be missed.
Always remember that even if you think the opposite during your darkest moments, you ARE significant.
You mean something.
I’m getting very Augustus Waters-y tonight. It wasn’t supposed to be such a long reflective post, but oh well. I apologize and I hope this post will be at least useful to one person.
Social Anxiety will make you do weird things, such as holding onto an apple core for 45 minutes during a meeting because you’re too anxious to go to the trash can that’s 10 feet away
or waiting for someone else to throw out their apple core so you know it’s okay
but waiting a few minutes after they do so you don’t look like you were waiting for them
and trying not to stumble because you know everyone is watching you walk
and feeling really proud and relieved when you arrive back at your seat after having successfully thrown away an apple core like it’s a difficult task
i feel this too much
violent-buddhist:
Scientists discover most relaxing tune ever
Sound therapists and Manchester band Marconi Union compiled the song. Scientists played it to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay. Weightless works by using specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. A continuous rhythm of 60 BPM causes the brainwaves and heart rate to synchronise with the rhythm: a process known as ‘entrainment’. Low underlying bass tones relax the listener and a low whooshing sound with a trance-like quality takes the listener into an even deeper state of calm. Dr David Lewis, one of the UK’s leading stress specialists said: “‘Weightless’ induced the greatest relaxation – higher than any of the other music tested. Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions.” The study - commissioned by bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa - found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea. So relaxing is the tune, apparently, that people are being Rex advised against listening to it while driving. The top 10 most relaxing tunes were: 1. Marconi Union - Weightless 2. Airstream - Electra 3. DJ Shah - Mellomaniac (Chill Out Mix) 4. Enya - Watermark 5. Coldplay - Strawberry Swing 6. Barcelona - Please Don’t Go 7. All Saints - Pure Shores 8. AdelevSomeone Like You 9. Mozart - Canzonetta Sull’aria 10. Cafe Del Mar - We Can Fly
my muscles stopped functioning
I was so relieved this wasn’t a trick. Very soothing.
THIS IS IT, GUYS. This is the song I listen to when I’m feel a panic attack coming on or can’t sleep because of my anxiety. It has helped me more times than I can say.
Getting a new hyperfixation:
I think I and the other 10 people in the world who don’t watch Game of Thrones are probably more excited for the final season than anybody else
Why are you doing this?
That’s what an angel is. Dust crushed into a diamond by the weight of this world.

It is you, isn’t it? Hello, Prairie.
lyrics from downtown by majical cloudz
Phyllis Smith as BBA in The OA: Part II
I survived because I wasn’t alone.
- I thought I was losing my mind.
- You’re not. You’re just finding new rooms inside it.
