(reminder that a lot of detail and pigment has also been lost over time, so we are also only getting some of the effect the artist intended)
I fucking love cave art, and while I’m not sure “photorealistic” is even a fair measuring stick for skill (would you accuse Picasso or Chuck Jones of just not knowing how real people look?), it’s clear these images were made by people with an intimate knowledge of animal behavior and anatomy
