I know we are going through a freaking pandemic and I’m blessed enough to not be aching for cash. But my parents are telling me that I should be “trying harder” to find a job and their words make me feel that I’m wasting my life because I’m just too emotionally exhausted to “be productive”. I just wish they didn’t put this extra weight on me, I already am very harsh with myself as is. Anyway. Thank you for reading this.

There’s no such thing as wasting your life while spending time focusing on mental health. I promise you that working terribly hard while also dealing with emotional exhaustion will have worse consequences than ‘pausing’ physical and financial productivity for your emotional gain.

It’s like running a race. Let’s say you have a bad injury on your ankle. Would you do better in the race when you try to ignore it and limp through, or would you do better if you tend to your injury and then run at your very best? I’d say it’s the latter.

You’re not wasting your life just because you’re not earning any money right now, and I’m sorry that your parents are making you feel like you are. You’re allowed to stand up for yourself in that, and say “I can’t be that right now”, or “I can’t manage to right now”, or “I’m not feeling great right now”. Please take your time.

Sometimes you fall off the wagon for months. Sometimes you tell yourself you’re gonna start fresh on Monday and by Wednesday you’ve already fallen back off. Sometimes you have to restart a 100 times and it’s frustrating. But it will be okay. You can do this. One day at a time
