They’ve only recently banned contact in young hockey leagues because of the risk of brain injury and ultimately death. American football as a whole is still allowed. As is rugby. All of which cause major brain injury. Children where I am in Canada can hunt starting age 10. With guns.

Children can be vegan which arguably requires just as much health monitoring as going on puberty blockers (just different health monitoring).

And you know what else we let, no, require children to do? Get up at 7 in the morning every single weekday. And legislators don’t seem to give a flying fuck about the effects that has on their mental health and brain development at any age.

It's like how conservatives regularly insist that businesses have every right to discriminate when deciding who works for them but shit themselves when a business won't hire unvaccinated people.

It's hard to comprehend large numbers when it involves money. So instead, let's compare it to time.

Imagine that you received $1 every second.

It would take you about 4 hours to receive what a full time minimum wage worker receives in a year.

In 1-2 days, you'd receive an upper middle class yearly salary.

In just under 12 days, you'd be a millionaire.

But it would still take you almost 32 years to be a billionaire.

And to become the richest person in existence, it would take 5-10 millenniums (the exact number fluctuates).

A little wealth inequality is understandable. Some people work twice as hard and it would make sense that they'd have twice as much. Some people may just happen to have skills that society considers more valuable. Some people may be lucky enough to receive a little help from their families. Some people took a risk that happened to pay off.

But if the ratio between a minimum wage worker's full time annual salary and the richest person's net worth is literally the ratio between 4 hours and several millenniums, that can't be caused by hard work, useful skills, or a little luck. That can only be caused by the system being intentionally rigged.

Ok so if anyone is curious this did happen. It was in Portland, Oregon. The dead guy, last name Magnuson, age 55, screamed epithets at this UPS driver, Warren, age 41. Warren stopped and told him off. Magnuson then decided to hit Warren. Oregon has no Duty to Retreat, so Warren was within his rights to hit him back. He ht him once in the face and he fell and hit his head on a sidewalk, which is probably what actually killed him. All that to say, no charges filed and good fucking riddance.
