And before you ask which I’m certain you will, no, there is nothing about your situation that I can use for my own personal gain, it’s a genuine attempt at help and everything said will be held in confidence. James could feel himself stiffen as she really did take his words into account, moving closer, the warmth illuminating his skin, warming that of his colder one. James always being the colder one out of the two. And for that moment he wanted nothing more than to dip his head down and kiss her full in the mouth, right then and there without a second thought as to how Adam might feel, how his best friend might feel. For a split of a second he couldn’t care less, he didn’t care about anyone but himself. Though the feeling was quickly swept aside as he realise who it was that he was really holding in his arms. He couldn’t afford to be selfish with her. So he did nothing, if anything he was starting to draw away from her. 

“It’s getting late,” he murmured, thought late might be a slight understatement considering that it was close to morning. “I should probably walk you back to your dorm, I doubt Adam would approve of you sleeping over, in my bed.” It was strange for him to think of that. To think that sleeping in his bed, something that she did practically every night so long ago was strictly forbidden now. He didn’t say it out loud, but he sort of missed feeling her warmth next to him. Actually he missed it very much.

Gently drawing away from her, refraining his urges to kiss her then and there, James shuffled to the couch, emptying the tub into the sink whilst he allowed Esme to pick up her coat and bag before shrugging on a jacket of his own. It wasn’t as if he needed it, it was just a matter of finding something to do with his hands as he started walking her down the boys’ dormitories. With most of the rooms silent and even more so as they came out onto the school grounds, with the windows of dorms darkened as everyone else was fast asleep. And yet here he was walking with Esme as if it were nothing. The entire walk, all he could think about was how he didn’t want her to leave.

He told her to move in. She did. But now he was pulling away. Honestly, that was more than likely best. For both of them. Her body was slack against his as he spoke and she nodded. "He really wouldn't and we both know you wouldn't let me sleep on the couch and I wouldn't make you sleep on the couch, so... Walking me back is best." So many rules. There was so many rules between them now. What not to do, what not to say.. What not to think... But they couldn't stop the thinking. The wanting. They just had to shove it away, keep it far away. In efforts to save them both, and Adam, pain. Her eyes followed him as he pulled away and she licked her lips, straightening her body out.

She watched him scuffle around while she grabbed her things. Her purse, her coat. All she brought with her, all she needed going out. Sliding her coat on and zipping it up, her eyes darted to his own before swinging her purse over her shoulder and sliding her hands into her pockets. She stepped out of the room and waited for him to lock it up before walking by his side out the building, keeping space between them as others stared and wondered what was going on.

The walk was quiet, not awkward quiet. Not pregnant pause quiet, but... Quiet. They really had nothing to say that they didn't already know. Not really. After all, he had asked the questions. He knew she still loved him, was still in love with him. And she knew he was in love with her, knew he thought about her every day, but they also knew she was with someone else. Their best friend and neither of them would jeopardize that. Stopping at the door in front of the dormitory before she would be inside, Esme turned to him. "Thank you..." She bit her lip in pause. "For distracting me. Keeping your hand and hook to yourself. Just... Thank you for being there for me when I needed you." Esmeralda offered a small smile then kissed his cheek gently. "I'll see you around, James. Have a good night."

With that, she headed in through the door, shutting it behind her before walking back to her room and crawling in her bed. As she already knew, she had a lot to think about. With a verbal sigh, Esme laid in bed and went to sleep.
