Big news! Next Tuesday, we will be releasing a new single, a trve-progressive-emogaze cover of Lorde's "Team". This is our first release which we have recorded together in a studio with minimal overdubs, rather than me simply overdubbing all of the parts. The goal was to take a somewhat simplistic pop song and transform it into something that more closely represents the character of Godbless Thee, Mooseheart. The cover we came up with sounds very little like Lorde's original track, and we think, regardless of your opinions on her music, that you will thoroughly enjoy or butchering of her work. We also think you will enjoy this photo of John representing Dr. Robotnik. "Team" will release on our Bandcamp, Soundcloud, and YouTube next Tuesday, November 24th. Mark your calenders!

Interview with Jacob Beaver and Max D’Ambra of Twin Bruises
You guys recently played Cosmic Fest 2.0. How would you compare that show to the others ones you’ve played?
Max: Cosmic Fest was funny because there was no organization. We were supposed to play third and we ended up playing last. It was fun and I loved it
Jacob: Either way, organizing anything with Paul, you’re gonna have a fun time so you don’t have to worry about it.
You guys also played a new song at Cosmic Fest. Is there going to be a new EP?
Max: Yes!
Jacob: Yeah, we’re recording in the beginning of April.
Max: We’re recording the first week of April with Jonathan Klawitter. He’s a cool guy. He recorded Cactus Eyes & Lush Greenery which is a really good Death Metal/Black Metal Band
Jacob: They’re not Black Metal. They’re like beachy ambient awesomeness.
Max: Ha, ok. Listen to it.
Jacob: I will look them up right now! [pulls out smart phone and searches Cactus Eyes & Lush Greenery]
Is it true that you guys are going on tour?
Jacob: Aw fuck. We were supposed to go on tour with Ridgeway but the problem with the tour is that we’re still in fucking high school and Evan, our drummer, has finals. We don’t want to go on tour unless it’s with our full band
Max: I think what’s going to end up happening is we’re probably going to play the kickoff and welcoming home show. But, I don’t think we’re going to end up going to Portland with them. I was actually really excited about that because I was going to get my uncle who gets free gas from his work to drive us. That would have been half of our touring expenses, so we could have had a $100 tour to Portland which would have been awesome.
So what bands are your greatest influences?
Jacob: Fuck…
Max: It started with Fugazi
Jacob: Yeah, I was definitely a major Fugazi fan. Back when we first started, I based all my performing and all my guitar parts off Guy Picciotto. He’s a really cool guy.
Max: and Ian Mackaye is probably one of my favorite people on the face of the Earth. Fugazi was a big influence for us.
Jacob: [finally finds Cactus Eyes & Lush Greenery on his phone and plays their music. Holds phone up to Max’s ear] Proof! Does that sound like Death Metal to you?
Max: I don’t know if it’s the same Cactus Eyes & Lush Greenery.
Jacob: It is! You probably looked up the wrong one.
In the new song you guys played, I heard some Fugazi influence
Jacob: Yeah! The pause that we had was definitely Fugazi. I wrote it with Evan, and we were just fucking around with chords
Max: With my leads, I kind of just want to be the guy from Tiny Moving Parts. He’s insane; he’s all over the neck of the guitar
Jacob: The new song is one of my favorites because it was just about everything that was happening in my point of life
Max: I think we’re finally writing stuff that we’re proud of. We can finally say that it’s us

Q: When are we not going to play a show with The Gloriosas?Â

Some harsh but very very true words
When people let me review their portfolios (on career day or open days at my game design school) I explicitly ban them from commenting during the review… …because otherwise they will follow the impulse to downplay everything I see in an attempt at being humble. "this is an old image…"
"I’m not happy with that one…" "this is just a sketch…"
"I did this really quickly…" "there is better stuff on later pages…" It’s totally understandable to have those impulses. The quality of art is not empirical data and therefore impossible to measure. Good art, bad art, it all comes down to standards. And you don’t want to come off as naive or self-absorbed. But just don’t do it. Don’t talk yourself down in front of others. In the best case you have someone supportive who now thinks “damn, this person needs to be prepped up all the time. Do I really want to work with somebody like that” or in worst case “now that you say it, yeah, this is kinda lame/rushed/unfinished/lazy, go away.” You can only submit what you have. If that is not enough, then it’s not enough. Your attitude will not change that. But if it is enough, you can do serious harm by not being confident of who you are now. This means appreciating what you are able to do right now and have a clear vision of what you want to learn, be confident that you will learn it in time. Be proud.
This is really important. Eliminate this urge. Eliminate it professionally, when having contact with people in a position to buy your work. Eliminate it socially, when you just share your work for fun. Destroy this urge as thoroughly as you possibly can.
Because when you have done that, you’ll find that you feel at least 25% less shitty about your own work. You lose the urge to do it. You stop reinforcing those negative thoughts, and they retreat. They may never go away completely (although they might!) but this is good practice for ignoring those thoughts flat-out.
Don’t shit-talk yourself. Even if you can’t be SO PROUD, don’t ever try to influence anyone’s opinion toward your work in the negative.
Try to love your work. Try to see what you learned from each piece, even if it’s a failure. If you feel that you learned nothing, appreciate the fact that just spending time on it is honing your skills and giving you valuable practice.
i used to be super not-confident in my own work. When I stopped pointing out the flaws in my own stuff, I felt better about it almost immediately.
THIS! I see so many people post art or stories and say it’s just a drabble or doodle, it probably isn’t any good, people aren’t going to like it.Â
There are always going to be people who are willing to tear you down. Don’t do their work for them. Even if you can’t say good things, it doesn’t mean you have to say negative things.Â
