most every personality disorder & negative trait that dio has inherited is a result of his poor upbringing. less so poverty than his father’s ABUSE and the loss of his mother, albeit —— being poor did mean he had to work // gamble for people who couldn’t give less of a shit about him, or his situation. from a very young age, dio was little more than a victim of physical & psychological abuse. this roused A COMPLEX within him: to be number one.

speedwagon claims that dio was inherently EVIL —— aka he was born that way, and was always supposed to become a monster. as he grows older, dio finds himself expressing traits that belonged to the one person he hated above all others. that is, his father. dio becomes progressively more violent, & starts drinking. being too proud to accept the joestars’ kindness; too adverse to letting people in or accepting LOVE, dio grew apathetic.

he began to live in a world of delusion, where he —— DIO , reigned ( almost ) supreme. by making others feel like he once had, dio found that he begun to feel a strange sense of empowerment and righteousness. he would never again be hurt, if he became something ABOVE anything that could hurt him. even so, dio doesn’t truly love himself. the fact he is a product of his father & simply exists is loathsome — or, was. more than that ...

he is obsessed with the idea of becoming something GOD-LIKE and ethereal. ( immortal. ) something so far from what he had once been, that his old self will become nothing more than a memory. by taking over jonathan’s body, dio became less tied to his father —— & something which more-so resembled his IDEAL being. it begun with dio’s desire to become number one, and transgressed into a mania of sorts. despite this, he is self-aware.
