I felt a little hemmed in by doing my publication and poster designs for science related stuff, so felt I needed to get something out of my system, a few mock posters for the RAF during the mid-late 1940s. Sometimes it's necessary to do some self directed work to keep you sane. (And yes, that is Sir Frank Whittle on the pictures)
Novum Graphic Design Journal I picked up from Germany. Really fantastic quality printing in here, really shows graphic design and paper choice in action. Transparent pages, some brilliant design and quite an inspiring piece. It helped me with my Dissertation (an article on Aviation Branding) and also should help with next years self directed study.
Printing off my learning logs having added a header to each. Quite happy with how they are looking, the content seems to be looking good too. Perhaps some could have been bulled out a bit more but generally speaking I feel they are very relevant and in depth
Getting everything ready for final submission. Having work printed has made me realise how expensive the graphic design industry can be. It has also made me reconsider once again my methods of binding my book and the paper stocks used. I will be putting the final book together tomorrow which is a relief as I am finally happy with the kerning of text and layout of pages.
Dissertation
Approaching the end of my dissertation I am about to print it off and proof read it. I have come to the realisation that were I to write it again, I can guarantee it would be an awful lot better! It is quite frustrating that when I reach the end I realise how much more I could write and how I could re structure the entire essay. Oh well.. you live and learn!
I wanted to take my work in a different direction and move away from photoshop, here's a few ideas I came up with this evening in Illustrator. I like the use of vector graphics as it is moving away from my publication and creating something fresh, but it needs to be taken that stage further and look a little more professional
Just been trying to get a little inspiration for some design work, this is a fantastic website for generating ideas and seeing current trends in graphics!
Get this! It is a guide to pricing, ethical practice and also contains some useful sample contacts and invoices for use by graphic designers
Some awesome graphic design from technical illustrators, this is why I love illustrator! And there's some useful information too
Just love aviation related illustration..

Here are a few samples of ideas for tickets for my exhibition. Made use of the visuals created for my publication, so that there is some consistency in my work. Although it looks perhaps a little too arty and not graphic enough. It doesn't carry across the message that Space is incredible enough.
Kulula always have fantastic special liveries, some inspiration for my Final Major Project on Aviation Branding
Industrial designer Andrew Kim has created a new Coke bottle concept that could significantly change the sodamaker’s footprint. For every 4 bottles currently shipped, the square bottle design could ship 6. This means every shipping container could hold 4,000 more bottles of Coke. Kim also considered that Americans use 2 million plastic bottles every 5 minutes, so he made the bottle itself green. It is 100% plant based, made entirely from sugar cane byproducts. Which is amusing since Coke hasn’t been made from sugar since 1985 (via Jerry James Stone)
Here's an interesting website I found after looking for information on airline branding for my dissertation. A modern company with some fresh and original ideas
