The music pounded through the crowd as Katseye's name was called out. The crowd erupted into cheers, and you found yourself clapping along. You were happy for her, you truly were. However, you couldn't help but feel a pang of heaviness in your stomach at the idea that you two were about to celebrate this momentous occasion separately. The group of six girls entered the stage, waving as they walked up to the microphone, expressions a mixture of shock and pride.
"First of all," Sophia spoke into the microphone, accepting the award from the host of the award show, "thank you to my beautiful members who used their talent to get us to this point. Thank you for the help from our entertainment, from our staff, from our family, and from our friends. We wouldn't have had the confidence to get to this point without you. Sophia continued with a cliche yet meaningful speech about how much this event means to her and the rest of the group, and when she was done and about to finish the speech, Yoonchae snatched the mic from her.
"And thank you to my beautiful girlfriend!" Yoonchae added to the microphone, wide smile on her face as she attempted to find you from the crowd.
"Yeah, um… thank you AMAs! Everyone have a good night!" Sophia blurted, pulling Yoonchae away from the microphone and rushing the girls off stage. You just knew Yoonchae was going to be in big trouble, and despite your previous concerns, you really didn't mind it much anymore. As long as you got to love her loudly.

you don't. instead, you keep your eyes fixed on the dashboard, jaw clenched tight so tight it begins to ache a little.
nikki's been like this all night—demanding, persistent, a little annoying if you're being quite honest. ever since you snapped the branch of that one wish willow... thing a few weeks ago, she's become more and more needy as the days go by.
at first, it was cute. she was loving, finally reciprocating the same amount of love and adoration you had for her before you made the wish. after the first week, however, it was like something had flipped a switch in her mind... like the harmless little wish you'd made had gone wrong.
if you're being completely truthful, she's gone mad. like... crazy woman, fully out of her mind, insanely in love with you and only you. and, sure, maybe that's what you wished for, but this isn't exactly how you'd imagined it. you imagined waking up with her every morning, kissing her, making breakfast together and doing cheesy things that any normal couple does.
and yeah, it was perfect for a little while—minus the normal part, because a wish coming true is far from normal—everything was fine and dandy.
but then, like you mentioned before, something suddenly changed. in her demeanor, the way she acted, the ways in which she expressed her love for you. what was once slow, meaningful kisses in quiet spaces soon turned to awkward, unsettling speeches in public spaces about just how deeply-rooted her love for you was. and that's even further from normal.
now it's four weeks later and... god, saying you don't know what to do would be the biggest understatement of the year.
because the girl sitting next to you isn't nikki.

her voice isn't loud, miles from it. and that's the problem. she never has to raise it because she knows just how tight she has you wrapped around her finger.
and your response only proves her point.

she looks beautiful tonight, unfair, and now you realize why you made the decision to disobey her in the first place.
the glow from the passing streetlights catches on her cheekbones and against the bridge of her nose every few seconds, painting her features in golden light and then taking it away again. her hair falls perfectly over her shoulder, casting a soft shadow over her eye that's closest to you. her eyes are glossy—not quite crying, but close enough that your stomach twists with the memory of her sobbing earlier.
you made her cry earlier. the reason behind it would be enough to make anybody laugh and make fun of you for your inability to be a good partner.
but it's not your fault.
right?
she was the one who kept pushing you against the wall and insisting that you give her a kiss goodnight—aggressive, terrifying. the thing is, you'd already given her several kisses before that.
whatever.
the moment's passed.
you guess she's still a little salty.
"there," she smiles, eerie. "was that so hard, baby?"
her tone makes you tense, swallowing down the lump in your throat.
you clear your throat. "nikki, you—"
she doesn't let you get another word out before she's speaking again, raising her tone just to be louder than you.
"no," she interrupts, eyes widening. her smile slowly fades, the faintest trace of a frown spreading across her face. "no, don't do that again."
nikki maintains eye contact, stare more creepy than anything. you can't tell if she's trying to have an honest conversation with you or just trying to argue again like she always does.
it's most likely the latter.
and you hate it.
so you sigh, eyes droopy with exhaustion.
"...do what?" you murmur.
"act like i'm the bad guy," she exclaims, not missing a beat. her tone is louder this time around, eyes opening even wider as she leans closer to the center console in her seat. it's the only thing between you two and you're really hoping to keep it that way.
even with that small barrier, the words hit you like a punch straight to the gut. because maybe she is the bad guy, but again, maybe she isn't. her underlying tone makes doubt seep into your bones, head spinning with the events of the night and all that's to come in the following days, weeks, or even years that you're stuck—that you're in a relationship with her.
stuck would be too selfish of you to say, because you wanted this. you wanted all of this. the good, the bad, the pretty, the ugly. but even as you continue to tell yourself this is simply a miniscule bump in the road on your long journey as lovers, it has yet to get any better.
the hope that you sported so proudly at the beginning of this rocky road is slowly deteriorating, the spark you felt earlier fading quicker than it was first lit. it makes you sick to your stomach, knowing how much you loved her at the start, but you don't think you can keep doing thing.
not for your well-being, and certainly not for hers.
she needs professional help.
and maybe that's your fault, but it's more the manufacturers and sellers of that stupid one wish willow gimmick that are at fault. if that dumb stick didn't exist, maybe you'd still have your nikki. the nikki you actually fell in love with.
that's what makes it so hard.

she laughs softly and leans back in her seat, easing your nerves for a mere second before she parts her lips to speak again.
"everything that's happened is because of you, you know," she mumbles, matter of fact. "because of you and your idiotic fucking decisons!"
her voice raises near the end, tearing off into a blood-curdling scream of words you can't pick up even at the volume in which she yelled them.
your chest still tightens.
it feels like if you move even an inch, your chest will explode out of fear.
inhaling, you reply. "that's not fair, nikki."
"fair?" she repeats, still yelling. her eyebrows lift in mock-sympathy. "you wished for this, yn. you... you wanted me like this, wanted me to love you. and—and i do love you, honey, i love you so much that i'd carve my own heart out of my chest and place it into your hands if you just nicely asked me to."
the silence that follows envelopes the small space inside of your car, and your stomach twists uncomfortably with the visual your mind comes up with.
it doesn't seem to bother nikki.
she just watches you struggle in your own disgust, waits for you to say something in retaliation. and when you fail to find one, she smiles.
"you're thinking of me," she hums, satisfied.
"no shit."
"you're thinking of me ripping my heart out and letting myself die just so you can live," she continues, talking over you without a care in the world. "you want that, don't you?want me to die for you?"
her voice drops, lower.
a pause.
and then she continues, quieter.
"you wanna watch me bleed out?" she adds, whispering.
you try looking away, breaking the eye contact as you pull off to the side of the empty road you're on.
the moment you shut off the car, she screams.
it makes you flinch.
hard.
"nikki, what the fuck?!" you yell, pressed against the drivers seat door.
"i didn't tell you to look away!" she screeches, unbuckling her seatbelt and leaning over the center console.
your breathing picks up, heavy, uneven breaths falling from between your lips.
her disappointment is clear in her eyes, tears welling up again like a few hours prior. you stay frozen, trying your best to keep still and not move your eyes away from her, knuckles white from how hard you grip both the headrest and the steering wheel.
she relaxes again, sitting back down.
guilt creeps up your spine, cold and uncomfortable.
the silence is almost worse than her screaming and berating you.
"i'm... i'm trying, nikki," you mutter shakily, blinking a few times before locking your eyes on her again. "i don't... you're just so—"
"so what?" she cuts in, "so hard to love?"

"and i've done everything to get you to love me, yn, and you haven't done shit for me. not when i'm laying myself out for you, and certainly not when i'm getting rid of obstacles in the way of our relationship for you. for you, baby. you haven't killed people for me, not like i have."
your stomach jumps in disgust, memories winding up in the back of your mind.
