Leonard Bernstein on Mahler 9
the thing is that every time they invent a new thing that everybody has to be able to do to get along in society, that also involves making some people disabled who weren't before, because they can't do the thing. and they never could do the thing, but it didn't used to be a disability.
driving a car. making a phone call. navigating the internet. getting a mortgage. you know? they keep adding new things that everybody has to be able to do or else there's something wrong with you. well maybe there's something wrong with driving a car. maybe it's a hideous activity. did they ever think of that
i’m so glad i’ve never gotten over anything in my life it makes listening to music so fun

In WWI, a tradition in German regiments was to photograph the tallest and shortest member of the regiment side by side. These photos were then often sold as postcards.
I love how in most of these the tall person looks happy or neutral and the short person looks like they're considering the consequences of killing the camera man
so many people don't understand how abelist it is to kill your brother with a rock
practicing self care less out of self love and more for the sheer logical reasoning of it’d be kinda stupid of me to expect myself to be able to function without proper maintenance
“oh i don’t deserve rest and relaxation, i haven’t done enough, i haven’t earned it” and my car’s breaks don’t deserve break fluid because they aren’t breaking well enough to earn it. that’s what you sound like!!!!!
If you do not schedule time for maintenance, your equipment will schedule it for you

so important to remember coconut curry exists
Basic Coconut Curry
dice and sautee a bunch of (red or white) onions, garlic, & ginger
add choice of protein
add choice of veggies
add broth, coconut milk, and curry spice mix
cook on low heat 20 min
add sugar, salt, pepper, and lime juice (optional)
serve with rice or flatbread
BOOM. curry. never kill yourself
This is almost exactly how I make it, but if you wanna add some extra oomph without getting too fancy, I also toast the curry spice mix in sesame oil before adding the coconut milk. Toast it until it looks like the spice mix is excreting its own oil, add and mix in a bit of water and then wait for it to evaporate, and repeat that once or twice. Takes about 5 minutes and deepens the flavor a bit if you wanna try it. I think it's called blooming the spices?
