Do you have the entire audio commentary for Pirates of The Caribbean 1 with Jack Davenport and Keira Knightley? I am in desperate search for it! Please help me <3

ok so there were three commentary tracks on the film's DVD - the Keira Knightley and Jack Davenport one is actually the only one that doesn't cover the entire film, it's mostly just their scenes (meaning it operates as a largely Johnny Depp-free cut of the film).

I picked up the DVD from an op shop for like a dollar, it was one of the best selling DVDs of 2003 so there's loads of copies floating around.

If you do not have access to a DVD player, I recommend thinking long and hard about the title of the film.

fun facts about the first Pirates of the Caribbean that live rent free in my head

The line "nice hat" was not in the script, it was just everyone's reaction to that hat.

The first scene shot with Jack Sparrow is about halfway through the film, in Barbossa's cabin, and it features far less makeup because the actor had just come straight from a meeting with the chairman of Disney Studios (here it is compared to the scene straight after it, which was shot months later)

The initial costume concept drawings for Jack Sparrow vibe much more like Jack Rackham in Black Sails

The Black Pearl and Dauntless weren't actual ships, they were decks built on barges. This meant they were much higher than a normal deck and swayed more on the waves and everyone get really, really seasick. (Zoe Saldana had it worst). They were then given seasickness pills, which cured the vomiting and instead made everyone really sleepy.

The script for this movie is incredible to read but my two favourites parts have gotta be "holy smokes!" and "good Christian boy Will Turner"

anyway this is like a tiny portion of the stuff we covered on Going Overboard so if you wanna know a) a bunch more lil fun facts, b) how close Pirates was to being an absolute disaster and c) who actually wrote the goddamn music for this movie, check it out

(fun fact the last episode of Going Rogue originally included a section about EK Johnston's book Ahsoka and how it successfully made agricultural degradation as a result of imperial occupation into a compelling plot device and it ended up being cut for time but I am glad to have sparked joy in her life)

I got great news - if you can get your hands on the DVD, Keira and Jack's commentary doesn't cover the whole film, it's mostly just their scenes, so it's pretty close to a JD-free version of the film.
