2.13 DEAN: There was nothing protecting her. There's no higher power, there's no God. I mean, there's just chaos, and violence, and random unpredictable evil th - that comes out of nowhere, and rips you to shreds.

4.02 DEAN: See, this is why I can't get behind God. SAM: What are you talking about? DEAN: If he doesn't exist, fine. Bad crap happens to good people. That's how it is. There's no rhyme or reason - just random, horrible, evil - I get it, okay. I can roll with that. But if he is out there, what's wrong with him? Where the hell is he while all these decent people are getting torn to shreds? How does he live with himself? You know, why doesn't he help?

4.02 DEAN: I'm not convinced. 'Cause if there's a God, what the hell is he waiting for, huh? Genocide? Monsters roaming the earth? The freaking apocalypse? At what point does he lift a damn finger and help the poor bastards that are stuck down here? CASTIEL: The Lord works… DEAN: If you say "mysterious ways," so help me, I will kick your ass.

5.02 DEAN: Listen, Chuckles, even if there is a God, he is either dead—and that's the generous theory— CASTIEL: He is out there, Dean. DEAN: —or he's up and kicking and doesn't give a rat's ass about any of us. I mean, look around you, man. The world is in the toilet. We are literally at the end of days here, and he's off somewhere drinking booze out of a coconut. All right?

5.16 DEAN: So he’s just going to sit back and watch the world burn? JOSHUA: I know how important this was to you, Dean. I’m sorry. DEAN: Forget it. Just another dead-beat dad with a bunch of excuses, right. I’m used to that. I’ll muddle through.

5.22 CASTIEL: I don't know what God wants. I don't know if he'll even return. It just… seems like the right thing to do. DEAN: Well, if you do see him, you tell him I'm coming for him next.

11.21 DEAN: Here's the thing, um...Chuck... And I mean no disrespect. Um... I'm guessing you came back to help with the Darkness, and that's great. That's, you know – It's fantastic. Um, but you've been gone a – a... long, long time. And there's so much crap that has gone down on the Earth for thousands of years. I mean, plagues and wars, slaughters. And you were, I don't know, writing books, going to fan conventions. Were you even aware, o-or did you just tune it out? CHUCK: I was aware, Dean. DEAN: But you did nothing. And, again, I-I'm not trying to piss you off. You know, I don't want to turn into a pillar of salt. CHUCK: I actually… didn't do that. DEAN: Okay. People – People pray to you. People build churches for you. They fight wars in your name, and you did nothing.

11.21 DEAN: The deal? What... She's gonna eliminate you, and then she's gonna destroy everything that you've created. She's told me this personally. You started this. You started all of this, but does that give you the right to end it? You know, we're not just some toys you throw away. I think you owe us more than that. CHUCK: If my plan doesn't work, then humans will step up. You, Sam, others that are the chosen will have to find a way. It's why I saved you years ago. You're the firewall between light and darkness. DEAN: No. No, I... Look, give me a – a vampire, and I'm good. But this – God's sister? That is way above my pay grade.

Post-Finale Supernatural Fic Recs

I went through my bookmarks and pulled out a few of my recent post-finale fix-it recommendations since I've been on a post-finale reading spree lately. Here goes:

Meet Me Halfway by prosopeya Dean and Cas get together pretty quickly -- it's fairly low angst in terms of their relationship, but there's a lot of really believable Dean figuring stuff out about himself. And oblivious Sam is oblivious!

"You're even rubbing off on Dean," Sam says, and Dean swallows his coffee the wrong way.

so you say you want a deathbed scene by @goldandtherust The author reimagined the Dean/Cas Endverse relationship and I really loved that for them — not only did we get canonverse Dean/Cas closure, but we got it got it for our Endverse guys as well. (I really fought with myself about posting the entire last couple paragraphs of the fic as a quote in this rec, but it felt kind of spoilery so just go read the fic so you can read the end for yourself!)

your ex-lover is dead Another great finale fix-it by prosopeya (seriously, they're all good!) adn we get Endverse Cas again! This is a bittersweet post-finale fix-it with an Endverse Cas that felt very true to that Cas and to our Cas at the same time. It has a lovely epilogue.

a ribbon of concrete by @soft-pine I was really impressed with the writing because there are a lot of long stretches with Dean all by himself, and I tend to lose interest when there isn't much dialogue, but not in this fic! If you like Dean-whump, this is the story for you (but also #sam fans ymmv)

From All Ills by @bethmints So many Deans and so many Castiels and I loved every single one of them! It's so imaginative and sad and funny. When I read it, I kept making myself pause so I wouldn't finish it too fast -- I wanted to savor it.

Ate too much of an edible and realized how much baby sea turtles and Dean Winchester have in common. Have to dig themselves out of their own graves at birth/rebirth only to be thrust into an active war zone. Never stops being hunted. Mommy issues and abandonment issues. Rare, endangered, and considered a delicacy in certain areas. Super cute and endearing. Hates straws.
