Playing with texture

I've been having fun playing with texture by painting foods. Some focus on light and realism, but more on finding my style and just zoning out drawing shapes. I feel burnt out this week already even though it's only Monday, I got tired of brush strokes, so started to just draw hearts in the in-n-out piece, for example 🤣

Plus a picture of the jelly as a work in progress with the food photo reference I used.

Capturing energy is always harder than capturing a face. The expression changes in a split second, the lighting shifts, and every brushstroke has to keep up. I focused on the intensity of the performance and let the bold shadows do the rest.

I always keep the reference photo nearby, but I never try to copy every feather. The fun is finding the balance between observation and expression. A few textured strokes can say more than perfect details ever could.

This owl was a great reminder that painting is about capturing the feeling, not just the subject.

I love sharing the messy beginning just as much as the finished piece. Every painting starts with simple shapes, bold colors, and a lot of experimenting. Seeing a blank canvas slowly turn into something alive is still my favorite part of creating.

I wanted this piece to feel quiet rather than dramatic. Soft textures, gentle lighting, and a limited color palette let the atmosphere speak for itself. Sometimes the strongest paintings are the ones that invite you to slow down and look a little longer.

I love painting scenes that make you wonder what happened just before this moment. A few rough brushstrokes, strong lighting, and a character with a story already written across his face. Sometimes leaving details unfinished makes the scene feel even more alive.

This little raccoon stole the whole painting. I wanted it to have that curious look that makes you wonder what it's thinking, so I kept the sketch loose and focused on the fur texture and those big eyes. The tiny butterfly was the finishing touch that brought everything together.

I wanted this one to feel like a place you'd stop and stay for a while. Bright wildflowers, cool mountain water, and fresh air after a long hike. I spent most of my time balancing the colors and light until everything felt peaceful.

Nature always gives me the best inspiration to paint.

I could paint skies forever and never get tired of them. Every sunset has its own mood, and this one felt calm from the very first brushstroke. I kept the colors soft and let the clouds do most of the storytelling.

Sometimes the simplest scenes are the ones I enjoy painting the most.

I always find painting fur strangely relaxing. It takes patience, but watching the texture slowly come to life is worth every minute. This little orange cat was all about soft lighting, warm colors, and those tiny details that make a portrait feel real.
