Okay I'm just gonna say it.

It pisses me off that IDW1 calls Optimus a colonizer for annexing Earth and literally openly compares him to Megatron for it because like

I'm sorry but there's an extremely wide gap between violently invading an occupied place to genocide the people and steal their resources for yourself, versus annexing a planet to a whole council of planets to make military defense of that planet authorized AND give them a representative political seat on a council equal to your own race?

I think it is imperialistic in the sense of, Optimus DID force Earth to be involved in politics/political structures without any say in the matter and them saying they didn't want to.

But Earth was also being actively conspired against for a second Decepticon invasion/genocide after Earth had ALREADY BEEN INVADED AND GENOCIDED BEFORE and had also stolen Cybertronian dead bodies to upgrade their own militaries, enlisted Cybertronians as mercenary soldiers for their own political ends, etc???

Like the line of "Earth doesn't want anything to do with Cybertron's bullshit" was passed literally YEARS ago so Optimus going "I'm annexing Earth to the Council of Worlds since it's technically a lost colony and thus having it on the same political body will force my racist-xenophobic Cybertronian kin to recognize it as a planet that needs our protection" is

I'm sorry but comparing that to a fucking GENOCIDE enacted by a fascist army whose explicit ideology was racial superiority, genocide, and conquest for the prosperity of Pax Cybertronia is so fucking disingenuous that it hurts, and it's actually fucking infuriating that the fandom looked at Barber's writing and just uncritically accepted "oh everyone says Optimus is just like Megatron so it must be true." Fuck all the way off.
