•This story is a "Criminal minds" fanfiction inspired by the "Cold case" episode "Fly away", so the timeline is almost the same as it was in that episode and there will be several OCs. The year od the death will be 2011 instead of 2001 and the investigation will happen in 2013 instead of 2003, though.
•Little Sienna and the "man in the bedroom" are OCs.
•Sarah is inspired by Rosie Miles from "Fly away" and Sienna is inspired by Toya Miles.
•I don't know exactly how our bodies function after we've been in a coma for years, so if any of you know more about this, feel free to correct me. I just followed what I saw in "Fly away" and also followed my insticts on this.
•I found this story's title thanks to an online AI title generator, so it didn't come from my mind.
•I know Derek lost his faith in God after being sexually abused as a kid, but it made sense to me to make him pray for his sister in this chapter, just like he prayed for Penelope when she was shot in the show.
•Benefits are what the State gives people if they can't work or are unemployed, if people apply for them. I don't fully know how they work, though, so if some of you know more about this, once again, feel free to correct me.
•I don't know if Derek's mom's full name is Francine or Frances. I just picked Frances because I like it the most between the two names that can have Fran, her nickname, as a nickname.
•My Wattpad "friend" sofi_grimes wrote a One Shot similar to this story on Wattpad because I requested it to her. So, the general idea behind her One Shot kinda came from me too. Being inspired by an episode of a TV show, it isn't originally mine, obviously, though.
•IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: I know Liam Payne, one of the former members of 1D, died just days ago kind of like Sienna dies in this fanfiction. Please, if you think this story will be triggering to you, don't read it. I obviously won't get offended. But I've decided to publish it these days because after not writing anything for ovee 6 months, I worked hard on this. Even if you think it wasn't the best choice, don't tell me, please. Just don't read.

The sun had just begun to rise in the warm morning of April 9, 2013, when 40-year-old FBI agent Derek Morgan was woken up by his cell phone ringing.
When he opened his eyes and looked at the display, Derek saw that the person calling him was his mother, 62-year-old Frances, whom most people she knew called Fran.
She lived in Chicago, just like everyone else in Derek's family.
Seeing her name as the caller ID so early in the morning made Derek's mind immediately go to his older sister Sarah.
She had been in a coma for almost two years after, in the night between May 21 and May 22, 2011, she and her 6-year-old daughter Sienna had fallen out of one of the windows of their apartment on the fourth floor of a building.
Sarah had survived, but gone into a coma, and little Sienna had died immediately after the fall.
Two years later, no one knew for sure if it had been an accident, if they had been pushed or thrown out of the window or if it had been a suicide attempt by Sarah.
In their hearts, however, Derek and everyone else in his family knew that Sarah would have never tried to kill herself, much less have taken her little girl's life too.
She had been unemployed for two years by the time Sienna had died, they lived on benefits and food stamps and the child's father, whom she had broken up with before Sienna had even been born, was in and out of their lives a few times every year, but Sarah had always been very strong, had a family to lean on and adored Sienna.
When he answered his mother's phone call that morning, in his mind, Derek prayed for the first time in years.
He begged God for his sister not to be dead.
He knew there wasn't much how for Sarah to wake up, at least according to her doctors, but as long as she was alive, they had a reason not to give up.
"She's awake!" hus mother exclaimed as soon as he answered the call "Your sister woke up about two hours ago!".
She was clearly crying, but for the first time in two years, she was shedding tears of joy, not of pain.
When they had almost lost all hope, after twenty-three months of waiting, Sarah was finally awake.
"How is she doing, Momma?" was all Derek managed to choke out.
"Pretty well physically, considering her situation" Fran replied "But she doesn't remember much. She knows who she is and remembers our names, but she obviously didn't know what year it is and how old she is now, and she doesn't remember her home address either".
"What about Sienna and the night she died?" Derek quickly asked.
"She did remember Sienna, bur didn't recall the fact that she is dead" his mother sighed "She cried so much after we told her".
"But then, she started repeatedly mentioning 'the man in the bedroom'" she added a few seconds later.
"Do you know who that is?" Derek questioned, starting to become suspicious.
"I have no idea, and Sarah doesn't remember his name or what he looks like either" Fran explained.
And right at that moment, Derek made a decision.
He was going to look into his niece's death and find out what had really happened to her, maybe even privately.
Something inside him was telling him that "the man in the bedroom" had a lot to do with Sienna's passing, that it hadn't been an accident, and he owed it to his sister and niece to find the truth and give Sienna the justice she deserved.
