Dio definitely has expensive taste! I think he perhaps lived in the mansion for more practical reasons and would have planned to move to customized space after defeating the Joestars. Heavy curtains for vampire practicality of course, but it's also an aesthetic preference. He loves heavy, rich textiles like velvet, silk, furs to adorn his space with. Dark hardwoods with warm shellac finishes topped with custom handwoven rugs. He loves gold of course, and uses it beyond what is tasteful or practical.
